Media Banned As Glenn Beck Receives Key To Mount Vernon

Glenn Beck will receive the key to his hometown of Mount Vernon, Wash. in a ceremony this Saturday. But don't expect to hear or see much coverage of the event.

According to The Seattle Times, no national or even regional press will have access to the official city event.

Just one local reporter--selected by Mount Vernon's mayor-- will have access.

According to Mayor Bud Morris, The media blackout comes at the request of Fox News and Glenn Beck representatives. The Seattle Times:

Norris, who planned the instantly controversial evening, said the directive came from Fox News and syndicated-radio personality Beck and his representatives, and that he wasn't told why: "No, I didn't ask for a reason." Norris said he would be choosing the one reporter allowed but hadn't decided who it will be.

Does your state have a sunshine law? Given your reputation, I'd bet on it. If so, please file a FOIA complaint with the city attorney. If this event is being sponsored/paid for by the city, they will have to allow reporters in by law.

It's not a personnel issue and those are the only proceedings that are usually exempt from sunshine laws due to personal privacy issues.

If not, please make sure you find a way of getting someone in their with a cell phone camera. There's got to be a reason they don't want cameras there as CryBaby Beck is a world class attention hog.

Maybe Fox wants an exclusive, which in this case, being that it is a public event, would also not pass legal muster.
