Hanging a Census worker is more proof the Right is absolutely stupid
First off this is a tragedy, however this is why killing a Census worker counting your area is a very stupid idea.

The Census determines representation in congress and your electoral vote count.

Making people afraid to work in rural areas because people are batshit insane means that less people will be counted and therefore, they will have less representation in congress.

Despite the fact that it is absolutley vile and wrong it is the most counterproductive thing you can do if your interest is really "taking your country back"

23. Proves whoever did it thinks we're stupid. We didn't need a note to blame the right.

2. It's been established that it was a homicide?
I didn't see that.

Got a link?

If not, please don't jump the gun on this one......................

AP source: Census worker hanged with 'fed' on body
WASHINGTON — A U.S. Census worker found hanged from a tree near a Kentucky cemetery had the word "fed" scrawled on his chest, a law enforcement official said Wednesday, and the FBI is investigating whether he was a victim of anti-government sentiment.

The law enforcement official, who was not authorized to discuss the case and requested anonymity, did not say what type of instrument was used to write the word on the chest of Bill Sparkman, a 51-year-old part-time Census field worker and teacher. He was found Sept. 12 in a remote patch of the Daniel Boone National Forest in rural southeast Kentucky.

The Census has suspended door-to-door interviews in rural Clay County, where the body was found, pending the outcome of the investigation. An autopsy report is pending.

Investigators have said little about the case. FBI spokesman David Beyer said the bureau is assisting state police and declined to confirm or discuss any details about the crime scene.

It is probably safe to say that the worker did not scrawl the word Fed onto his chest after he hanged himself.

Looks like anothe right wing sicko murder.

12. So far, I don't see anything
calling it a homicide.

I've seen some suicides that were very odd, set up to look like anything but suicide. Insurance payoffs were usually the reason.

Until it's determined that this was a murder, I'm withholding judgment.............................

13. Oh God.
It is getting very bad now. This is evil. It could be anger at anyone "Federal" or this poor person could have encountered some kind of drug operation accidentally and met their end due to that. Either is possible in the eastern part of the state. It is getting so terrible. I grew up in Eastern Kentucky, I am after my parents to move. I do worry about them with the terrible drug situation.

to someone capable and willing to "murder a FED" is, in itself, illogical.

9. Half a century ago, they hung black men in the forest and put the...
word N----r on their chest. If someone bothered to cut the word Fed on his chest it probbaly has something to do with the GOP and their tea party thing.

7. Right/wrong, smart/stupid never occurs to some people.
They just think killing is fun; the slower and more painful the better.

May this man's spirit and family someday have some peace.

I was reacting more to the Free Republic post celebrating this action. I thought one or two of them may have made the connection on what the census determines.

10. I'll tell you why the person who killed the census worker is stupid
Census workers carry GPS trackers.

$5 says the guy was capped in someone's front yard, and it'll be the last yard on the computer.

24. Interesting point...maybe even a motive
That's a big maybe, mind...right now I think the accidental drug production discovery is a real possibility. But the crazies on the right don't like the idea of census workers documenting the exact location of property:

You'd think so, huh? The Constitution was reportedly changed by a law in 1913 that fixed the number of Representatives at 435. I think we should have something like 10,000 Representatives by now were we following the Constitution.

See that magic number? 1913? It sure seems to pop up an awful lot.

If we had more Representatives, it would, at the very least, cost corporate a heck of a lot more bribe money. But you know how cheap they are.

15. the number of representatives doesn't change, what changes is how
many each state gets. If a state were to loose a lot of it's population, it would loose a representative to a state that was growing in population.

18. You know that massively changed the populist nature of Congress.
Edited on Wed Sep-23-09 08:26 PM by Trillo
The original setup balanced the states concerns (Senate) with the population's concerns (Representatives).

The 1913 law that apparently caused this increased the power of the states relative to the people's total representation.

Edited to add: It also seems it would have changed the ratio of the Legislative Branch to the Executive Branch, by shrinking that ratio to some arbitrary and unconstitutional number.

(it was reported that the WH had over 2000 employees during b*sh2) I heard that George Washington had trouble getting Congress to approve the expenditure for a desk he seemed to think he needed. Not sure if it was a true story.

25. I think the point is 'good citizens check for duplicates'
which DU prominently displays every time you make an original post, but which some people never seem to read. Multiple threads on the same subject are less informative, since it's hard for someone who is interested to keep up with all of them.

that is why DU asks that we check. The people that set up this website and suggest we do this know what they are doing. Every body thinks they can jump in and out scoop the next guy!

20. I am a census employee
I have read speculation that this may be related to meth. I could be wrong but I think the oath that I take each and every year regarding citizens' right to privacy would extend even to protecting the meth cooker from reporting. I know it extends to people suspected of being illegal aliens. to inform on them would be against the law and carry a huge fine. I don't remember now whether it is a $100000 or 500000. What a tragedy
