That's the last time the bastards give me a phone call!
I've posted twice here about activities in the NY 23rd ahead of the special election to replace Congressman McHugh. McHugh was recently approved as Secretary of the Army. this is traditionally Republican district, very rural with several small cities : Oswego, Watertown (Fort Drum) , Fulton and Plattsburg (former home of an Air Force base). The kicker is that this district recently elected a Democrat, Daniel Aubertine to the New York State Senate, thereby putting the Democrats in control of the Senate for the first time in ages.

So, I was push polled twice, before and after McHugh was approved. The poll was clearly aimed against Bill Owens, the Democratic candidate and the Conservative Party candidate. The Conservative Party candidate represents a threat because the Republican Party nominated someone who is a moderate on GLTB rights and abortion rights in an attempt to attract Democratic voters. The Democratic candidate, Bill Owens, is in favor of civil union but not same sex marriage. The calls were a hoot, because they attacked Owens from the Left over GLBT rights and from the right over the Health CAre Reform.

I wrote in to the local weekly describing in broad terms what a push poll is and warning people that they are a method to spread innuendo. This morning I got a call from a local public radio station and I described the calls in detail. Granted, the ratings for the public radio stations may be low, but the word is getting out.

2. Not according to the repub who was running against Beau Biden
for AG here in Delaware. He said local politics have absolutely nothing to do with Washington DC. He made the mistake of sitting down next to me at the Memorial Day parade to try to convince me that he was right. I did my best to educate him, and ended up educating the people near us also. Thank goodness Beau won the election.

3. In the very early 70s, I watched a lot of extreme right wingers take over school boards
They started there and kept moving up the political ranks, bringing much decisiveness with them every step of the way. They gathered crowds to be sure, but the noise they made was much greater than their actual numbers.

Snowballed and Newt taught them Goebbels propaganda methods (for which they got college credit, I believe). Newt got his Contract on America in place and shut down the US government in a snit fit over his seat on AF1 while Clinton had to write a eulogy instead of entertain the inflated ego of a reptile.

All politics are local, in the beginning. Tell the GOP pol I said so. ;)
