U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was hospitalized after falling ill
Edited on Thu Sep-24-09 07:14 PM by usregimechange
Breaking on CNN.

Update:

WASHINGTON – Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been hospitalized after becoming ill in her office at the court.

A statement from the court said the 76-year-old justice was taken to Washington Hospital Center at 7:45 p.m. EDT as a precaution. It said Ginsburg had received treatment earlier in the day for an iron deficiency that was discovered over the summer.

About an hour later, she began to feel faint.

Ginsburg underwent surgery for pancreatic cancer in February but returned to work quickly.

5. Could this effect Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission?
Not to be morbid, but this is one of the most far reaching cases to go before the court in some time.

6. Answering my own question (Correct me if I'm wrong)...

It looks like a tie vote would reject Citizens United's appeal. To overturn, Citizens United still needs 5 votes.

7. Well, I'm sure she would be against the corporatists in that case
But it's looking like a likely 5-4 decision anyway, unless Kennedy finds his soul. So it would still be 5-3 in favor of the corporatists, if Ginsberg was not able to vote.

Unless Kennedy DID find his soul AND she was unable to vote - leaving a 4-4 tie?

I really hope that another Supreme Court nomination isn't necessary before health care is taken care of though.... because the next nominee needs to be a solid LIBERAL, and we don't need any cowards in the senate trying to hold health care hostage in order to influence nominations.
