Pot, moonshine still & explosives found at man's home
http://www.wkyt.com/wymtnews/headlines/61287152.html

<snip>
When police searched Bobby G. William's Harlan County home, they found the suspected marijuana plants, but after further investigation, they found a working moonshine still, and even explosives.

Through a helicopter flyover, police spotted pot plants on Bobby G. Williams' property, and soon discovered a working moonshine still. But it was the discovery of explosives that forced Kentucky State Police to call in its bomb squad.

<snip>
Troopers collected nine marijuana plants, the moonshine still, and ATF agents located blasting caps, a large amount of time fuse, other military explosive equipment, as well as several firearms and ammunition. Police say the 55 year old Williams came back home during the search, but he was cooperative, and they did not arrest him. They say they are turning the case over to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

"The ATF will act swiftly on this and they'll do what they need to do on it," says Meachum.

WYMT asked several people in the Jones Creek community if they would want to comment on the bust, but no one felt comfortable with doing that.

<snip>
An ATF official says they can't comment on the case except to say it is an ongoing investigation, but police do say federal charges on Bobby G. Williams are pending.

Police credit this bust to an anonymous tip. Police urge you to call them with anything suspicious you might notice in your neighborhood. You can call 1-800-DOPE-TIP.

16. Feds will wait 'til the last day to file charges
Because they'll be trying to make him rat out somebody else. And keeping him in legal limbo keeps up the pressure.

9. Guess I was wrong about moonshine
In a thread about the murdered census worker, I said moonshine and hatred of revenuers were proud Kentucky traditions but meth may have replaced moonshine. Guess not.

12. Why did they take his moonshine still??
Edited on Thu Sep-24-09 11:21 PM by Saboburns
It's never been illegal to make moonshine.

What gives??

I get more convinced everyday that we live in a police state, that is deteriorating exponentially.

13. They took his still because making moonshine is illegal
Making beer & wine is ok, but not distilled spirits. The government wants the taxes on each gallon distilled and if you are caught, the penalty increases with the amount of moonshine.

:toast:

Making moonshine is indeed legal. It's the selling that's illegal.

18. Depends on how much you make
If you distill a few gallons a year for personal use is one thing. Try to convince the feds that distlling 500 gallons is for your personal use.

20. The only reason Bobby G. is in trouble is the law made him a criminal
Marijuana is a naturally growing weed in Kentucky. The Federal and State Governments have made a naturally occurring plant illegal to grow or possess. Bobby planted a seed from a weed and the Government made him a criminal.

Distilling alcohol has been a process carried out for a thousand years. The Government wants a cut of the proceeds from Bobby's still, which he refused to pay, and that made him a criminal.

Bobby knew the BATFE might come looking to arrest him one day, so he acquired explosives to blow the still (evidence) to smithereens. Dynamiting stills to destroy the evidence is a common practice, and since Bobby was already a criminal from growing pot and making moon shine, so he added explosives to the list.

Mother Nature does not know marijuana and alcohol are illegal, but somehow our Government does
