Verify or debunk?
Okay, just got this in an email. I haven't been able to find anything on it. Anybody know anything about it?

-------------

On Tuesday, the Senate health committee voted 12-11 in favor of a two-page amendment, courtesy of Republican Tom Coburn which would require all Members of Congress and their staff members to enroll in any new government-run health plan.

Congressman John Fleming (Louisiana physician) has proposed an amendment that would require Congressmen and Senators to take the same health care plan that they would force on us.. (Under proposed legislation they are exempt.)

Congressman Fleming is encouraging people to go to his Website and sign his petition. The process is very simple. I have done just that at:

http://fleming.house.gov/index.html .

2. So, in other words, he'll kill health care and the public option
by asking his fellow Republicans to NOT join the Democrats in Health Care Reform.

Okay.

What's your point?

I don't get it.

3. That's pretty much where I was leaning.
Coburn and Fleming, that's a combo that just begs a bit of cynicism. I just can't bring myself to trust that either one of them has developed a sudden altruistic streak. It smells sneaky. And I still haven't been able to get to the 'petition' via that link.

Don't underestimate the populist grandstanding potential of this for voters.

Symbolic play for the base and a lot of independents who don't trust or much like congress.

"If it's do good why don't congressmen want to be on it" has been echoing in the town halls on the M$M and it's a fave with teabaggers.

And don't doubt it will be held over anyone's head who votes against it nest election in add after add.
