A thread on the passion of Ed Schultz
Edited on Fri Sep-25-09 07:00 AM by Cyrano
Long time radio talk show host Ed Schultz has the 6PM hour on MSNBC. If you've missed him, you're missing something really important.

Ed has been on for about six months now and the topic he never fails to talk about is health care. Did I say "talk about?" The man literally bounces off the walls whether he's talking about Republicans, or blue-dog Democrats who are trying to block a public health plan. If many more Democrats had his unbridled passion, we would have had universal health care decades ago.

He always has Republicans on the show and never fails to call out their talking points, evasions and outright lies. He lets them get away with nothing.

I love Keith Olbermann and Rachael Maddow, but from time to time, you'd really like to see them get angry and outraged. Ed takes up the slack in this department.

If you need a good dose of outrage, try Ed if you haven't seen him yet. If we lose this health care fight, it won't be because of him. He's a one-man crusade who really gets your adrenaline flowing.

By the way, he's in the top two percent of wage earners and any plan will cost him money. But this is a guy who's more interested in doing the right thing.

How about we all email him or send him a letter to let him know how much we appreciate what he's doing for all of us.

1. Sounds like a really awful 60s movie "The Passion of Ed Schultz"
Just kidding. I like him and I like his passion. I heard him a few times on radio and he didn't do it for me, I actually found him too middle of the road, too DLC.

But lately he has really come alive and I think television is the better vehicle for him. He is a great "everyman" counterpoint to our beloved eggheads Keith and Rachel. I'm not saying he's not smart, he is. He also latches onto a point like a pit bull, and shakes it and gnaws at it until there's not a shred of meat left.

2. I agree with you 100% on every point; however, there are days when his
outrage is so strong and so LOUD that if I've had a lousy day I have to turn the TV off. Sometimes he just goes a teeny bit overboard.

3. I agree. However, isn't it refreshing to see a Dem get so worked up an
issue and go overboard? When's the last time anyone can remember seeing that?

4. Ed is a bottom line kind of guy and when the cost of his premiums ....
.... on his health care kept jumping he was pushed "over the edge" and came out swinging and has not stopped since then.

6. The cost of his premiums might have been what got him started, but
right now, he's fighting for all of us.

He showed a video of a woman at a town hall meeting who lost her job, had stomach cancer and needed almost immediate attention. (I think Keith and Rachael have also shown it.)

The town hall meeting was being held by Virginia Republican congressman Eric Cantor who, in effect, told her to go find some charity to help her. Ed played it twice in two nights. If a video like this isn't enough to get your blood boiling, nothing is.

He then went on to verbally bury Cantor who is the Republican's latest try at finding someone who projects "moderation and sanity."

8. On the cost of the premiums I still remember his radio show when ....
.... he started "going off" about the costs. Ed kept saying he could see where people could afford health insurance anymore
w/ the costs jumping as sharply as they were time after time. He promised then to keep fighting until we got reform or he
was off the air.

My household qualified for $1200 Bush stimulus check and 2 months before the check arrived Blue Cross bumped our rates $1512 a year. I guess they read the news money was out there.

12. I like the way he targets individual politicians
He sometimes does entire shows about them. Like Max Baucus or Ben Nelson.

Now his target seems to be Eric Cantor. He's very effective.

14. LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!!!
I have e-mailed many letters expressing my gratitude and willingness to support him in every way.
Not only is he a pit-bull on the healthcare issue, he is the first guy I ever heard in my 40+ yrs to stand up for Unions. Maybe there were others, I did hear Michael Moore piece on ABC yest., but Ed makes me proud that I am a person that works with my hands.

16. You're right. Ed stands up for unions. There are too many people
in this country, especially in much of the South and rural America, who don't understand that unions will fight for them, increase their wages their benefits (and their lives) and stand by them when some "injustice" has been committed.

Far too many ignorant or uninformed people equate the word "union" with "communist." This is a measure of how successfully Republican propaganda has convinced people to vote against their own interests and well being.

Put more bluntly, the Republican Party are masters at convincing people to fuck themselves and everything that would benefit them.

15. If a few Dem politicians had Ed's outrage and passion
I'd like our chances much better. They are too busy triangulating their election chances.
Wish he'd give Evan (my wife is on the board of WellPoint) Bayh a lesson in being a Democrat.

20. There's just no thanking this man enough. But in truth, he's
out there alone.

Many of us here support him, but how many others like him do we see on TV? -- At last count, -- none.

He's a good antidote to hate radio and "Faux News," but he can't do it alone. What this country really needs right now is a thousand Ed Schultz's on radio and TV shouting their outrage and demanding justice.

And what this means is taking back MSM radio and television that belongs to all of us.

26. K&R for Ed. Watch the show almost every night. His passion for
health reform is great. This week he is crucifying Cantor, which satisfies me to no end. I love his Psycho Talk portion of the show. I think Michelle Bachmann holds the record for that one.

27. The most visible and vocal progressive before a national audience, what's not to love?!
He wears his heart on his sleeve and it is excellent to see such a genuine guy carry the water and do the heavy lifting for a variety of progressive causes. He is more public servant than 99.9% of our elected body of governing corporate gophers.

TYVM Big Eddie, you buster of bogus babble brokers, you. That's work you've got to love!
