Missouri mother backs over, kills child in driveway

A 4-year-old boy died Thursday after his mother accidentally ran over him while backing out of their driveway.

The incident happened at noon on a rural road about 5 miles west of Osceola, according to a preliminary report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The mother, 30, was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe. The child, Drake A. Collins, was taken to an area hospital, where he died.

2. God, how awful. I feel so bad for the family in a situation like this.

The same thing happened to a former boss of mine years ago. He wasn't the one driving, but someone (I think a family member?) backed out of his driveway and ran over and killed his three-year-old son.

People just need to watch their children more carefully. Just because you're at home doesn't necessarily mean they're safe.

4. accidents can happen anywhere anytime. it is just a sad. more careful? sure

but damn, for the grace of god, there go i. can happen to anyone, even in careful

i have a car that has monitor when i am backing up. picking kids up from school, and kids all around, i really value it. it is hard to see the little ones over the trunk.

5. A friend in college was drafted and went to Vietnam

A week after he came home, he went to visit his sergeant and backed over his kid in the driveway. He never got over it.
