Vultures picking the bones clean
as some of you may know, I"ve been trying to find work since december. On many job boards, to post your resume, they sell your emails and phone numbers to others.
What these "others" do, is send you emails that pretend to be offers of employment, but are instead nefarious attempts to get you to give up what little money you have left in various schemes.
OR, they are fly by night sales jobs where you don't even get commission.... things like that.

Also, there are email mining plants in the job boards where it seems like a good job, but the same jobs have been listed for months, repeatedly relisting.
Some of the "recruiters" are phone mill callers from India where they try to get you to give them your social security number.

I mean, c'mon! they're targeting out of work people who are desperate in order to steal the last bread crumb from their mouths.

This is akin to charlatans who promise "cures" for the dying for a fee.

Sorry, just had to vent.

1. Hucksters, like any other predators, prey on the weak and vulnerable first
It has always been so and will always be so.

Sad and sickening, but true...

2. it's harsh
So sorry, Lerkfish.

I have encountered all of these things, too.

They do the same thing when you go bankrupt. You wouldn't believe the "fantastic" offers that come to "help you get back on your feet". Car dealerships and sub prime lenders stuff your mailbox every day.

Man, I hope things get better soon.

5. Bad times.
My brother (who I had not heard from in over 10 years) showed up out of work and in debt. He is now living with us. He was able to find work as a security guard pretty quickly but he works every single day for 4-7 hours so he has no benefits and has to work at least 5 hours extra before any overtime kicks in. He is 52 and exhausted, mostly from trying to figure out how he is ever going to get out of the situation he is in. At 52 he has no chance of ever retiring. At least he found a job.

Vent away, you are in good company. Sadly.

7. I've run into those too.
Edited on Fri Sep-25-09 10:33 AM by juno jones
One kept baiting me for more and more info to reach a supposed job listing they had.

These types have been with us forever, the same shell game disguised and abetted by changing technologies.

A book I read recently, 'Victorian Underground', delved into some examples of Victorian ad and mail fraud. It was eerily similar to what we see today.

And yes, it preyed upon the poorest.
