My response to latest WH drivel trying to shove Baucus ins co giveaway down our throats as reform:
To Nancy-Ann DeParle,
Director
White House Office of Health Care Reform

I am sick and tired of the liberal wing of the Democratic Party being taken for granted.

I am sick and tired of being bombarded with emails that I don't agree with in an attempt to wear me down and get me to get along and go along with a sell out to the insurance companies just because Obama is a Democrat.

The President has utterly FAILED to draw any kind of line in the sand on a REAL public option. No veto threat - NOTHING.

In short there will BE no public option passed by Congress but the President wants me to go along with anything just so he can stamp it "Mission Accomplished" and put a check mark in the "win" column,

The Baucus bill will have NO meaningful public option but WILL force Americans to buy useless insurance policies from the same crooks who have been ripping us off all along under a ridiculuous interpretation of the Commerce Clause of Article I Section 8 of the Constitution.

People are are entitled NOT to spend their money on products they consider to be a rip-off. Insurance policies sold by today's private market providers are by and large RIP-OFFs. If everything were just fine with the private market there would be NO need to reform anything.

It is every bit as unreasonable an interpretation of the Commerce Clause to force Americans to buy health insurance as it would be to force them to buy cell phones or laptop computers. Certainly one might argue that there would be a public good to be derived in making people have a cell phone or a computer but it is an unreasonable exercise of government power to force them to buy such a product after they have made a decision in their own best interest not to do so.

I will personally be considering seeking an injunction to prohibit this from happening as an unconstitutional exercise of power that exceeds the bounds of the commerce clause should this provision become law.

The government HAS the power to tax me and then use those collected taxes to purchase goods and services (such as medical care) and then provide those services to me through its power to tax. It doesn't have the power to pass a law requiring that I buy three gallons of milk a month at the supermarket however.

What Democrats want, what the majority of Americans want is a SINGLE PAYER or government run system. If they can't have that they want a REAL PUBLIC OPTION that anyone can choose to participate in. What is being offered has so many cut outs that it will be totally inaccessible to almost everyone. On top of this the Obama administration keeps flirting with "triggers" which as we all know is a way to prevent public option from being available to anyone EVER.

STOP trying to pass any bad bill you can just to pass something.

REPUBLICANS and Blue Dog Dems are NOT willing to compromise and are in the pocket of big insurance.

I'd rather you tried to pass HR676 and if and when it fails, you beat them over the head with it at election time for "standing in the door way and blocking up the hall".

If Obama can't get on board with the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party, I'm afraid I'll have to take my time, money, skills and experience as a Democratic activist and go shopping for a new Presidential candidate in the primary here in Florida. I'm already looking for someone to replace Senator Bill Nelson.

1. I think the WH just wants to get something - anything - out of the finance committee...
and take it from there. We've gotten pretty good reassurance that Public Option will be in the final bill.

3. Yeah and the check is in the mail too...
Give it a rest...

No serious person who knows anything about Washington D.C. believes that.

Stop being so naive!

5. Teriffic letter
I have taken a 'let's see what the final bill looks like' point of view since it isn't over 'til it's over. That said, I am getting more and more disillusioned with our Democratic leadership on this issue. Do they really think we are that stupid? I guess they do.

The Republicans stall and continue to make up shit and the Democrats seem incapable of answering back. One would think the Republicans would be thrilled with this Baucus bill; the insurance companies, too for that matter. But it's about thwarting Obama, not about passing a bill, even one that benefits them.

I want to be optimistic, but what is going on is making me more and more cynical about politics. I will still hold on to my wait and see point of view but if there is no meaningful reform I may just hang it up, too.
