Liberty Counsel: Adopt A Liberal!

The Liberty Counsel, the Christianist outfit behind any lawsuit for Jeebus, has launched an "Adopt A Liberal" campaign, asking for prayers for people they judge to be working for Satan.
Since the landmark 2008 general election, there can be no doubt that a very large percentage of our Nation's leaders have a liberal mindset. The undeniable fact is that the 111th Pelosi-Reid Congress and the Obama Administration demonstrate a far left political philosophy. And since the President nominates federal judges and Justices of the United States Supreme Court, the judicial branch of government could take on a decidedly more liberal bent as the Obama Administration wears on. Liberty Counsel has therefore named this special new prayer-in-action program Adopt a Liberal. And that's exactly what we invite you to do -- adopt a liberal who is in authority for regular, intense prayer in accord with St. Paul's admonition to his disciple, Timothy. In fact, we expect that many of our friends and supporters will choose to adopt many liberals as subjects of regular prayer!

Funny and sad. I just do not get these people.

I noticed they called Obama's the most "radically liberal in American History"...I think they would shit themselves if they met FDR.

Prayer used to be a form of meditation or spiritual grounding. Still is for a lot of people -- but these groups want to turn it into a kind of juju. I can only think it's going to come back and bite them on the ass.

Then they prayed for me, and I saw the light and became a pro-war, pro-corporation, pro-insurance company conservative who thinks the poor should just pull themselves up by their own bootstraps and that everyone who disagrees with me is a godless atheist who wants to punch baby Jesus in the face!

Early in the Bartlett Administration, some "Christian" fundamentalist came up to CJ Cregg and said that on a given calendar day, millions of Christians would be praying for her. She didn't get it. She thought they were being nice, so she said thank you. Then she later found out that it was one of those Adopt a Liberal groups, and got pissed.

If a religious rightie wants to spend time praying that I'll be converted from my wicked left-wing ways, then why not? It will take time away from their campaigning against the teaching of evolution, stem cell research, women's right to choose, and other things that could actually have an effect on society.

And the only thing I pray for is for other people's prayers to go unanswered.
