Who else just watched NOW on PBS?
I don't know if it was new or a re-run, but they talked with a family from Oklahoma who's young daughter had severe medical issues relating to asthma. They couldn't get insured, and were told if their daughter could go a year without a medical issue, they might get coverage. The girl ended up almost dying because they were hesitant at first to bring her to the hospital. Then, in order to quailfy for Medicaid, they had to refuse raises or promotions to stay poor enough to qualify. Then, when they were in danger of making too much, they were told they needed to divorce and give full custody to the poorer of the two parents (the father).

This is the system people are picketing to protect? I just don't understand this country sometimes.

2. How about not treating the autistic?
I'm lucky to live in Pennsylvania where it's mandated that autistics get treatment.

Some conservatives are animals not worthy of living in a CIVILization.

That little girl doesn't make MONEY. So let her fucking DIE.

If she (or her parents) MADE MONEY, THEN she'd DESERVE to live.

They may not say that OUT LOUD, but what the hell is the difference when THAT'S what you GET.

What *I* don't get is how the "liberal" media (not PBS) doesn't hammer, Hammer, HAMMER stories like this, and instead give time to the teabaggers and Palins...

4. Our standards are different
Can you imagine if the government behaved the way private insurance does? I keep arguing that the government already takes care of the highest risk citizens (elderly, poor, veterans) and does an admirable job. Insurance companies then are left with the easy part - taking care of the mostly healthy. And can't do that right. Yet we're afraid of government taking over that role?

If there has to be a bureaucrat in between me and my doctor, give me the person worried about re-election over the one worried about his profit margin right now. Easiest choice ever.

5. Not just "worried about re-election", but...
the person who's obligation is to provide the service, not the person who's obligation is to maximize profit for their shareholders.

Really, why on earth who would you want the person who's obligation is to maximize profit for their shareholders in charge of your health care - standing between you and your doctor?

6. It is amazing how the insurance co. behaving like death panels
have tea baggers protecting them, and the status quo that props up this atrocity.
