Officials: Park smoking ban applies to pot fest
Officials: Park smoking ban applies to pot fest

Celebrate pot all you want, just don't smoke it. That's the message from Santa Cruz officials to attendees of an upcoming medical marijuana celebration in a city park.

Smoking of all substances is banned in the park, and a violation could result in a $70 fine.

Festival organizer Valerie Corral of Wo/Men's Alliance for Medical Marijuana argued to City Council members that seriously ill patients would need a place to smoke at Saturday's event. She pledged to erect a tent where they could smoke discreetly.

Corral conceded she did not follow proper procedures to request an exemption from the ban from the council.

Council members, some sympathetic to the group, told Corral on Tuesday that the ban would remain in place, and smokers could be cited.

Which preacher should we listen to to tell us that the way we choose on something is wrong?

12. In other words, things you felt were the OK ways based on your personal preferences?
Some like to smoke it, why is that any worse than the ways you see as best?

14. Dude, you reading WAY too much into it.
Get off your crusading white horse and look at context. All I was saying is there are alternatives. I made no judgment on smoking pot or other substances. I have been known to light up a joint or two - not that that matters because it was not part of the context.

8. Outdoor Smoking Bans
are just idiotic. I am quite sure that Santa Cruz allows vehicles in and around the park. I challenge any outdoor smoking ban proponent to sit in a car with the exhaust of their car piped into the cabin, and I will sit in a car chock full of chain smokers with the windows up...we'll see who comes out of that in better shape. Until the truly harmful air contaminants are gone, I'll continue believing these outdoor bans are a huge crock o' shit.
