Proposed alternatives to the now-departed "block" function
Just thought we could discuss some.

My first ideas:

1)The "Slime" function. We would borrow this from the old "You Can't Say That on Television" kids show, and allow you to pour green cyber-slime over the posts of any bothersome poster.
We could even offer your choice of slime colors so that a rainbow of slime could cascade down the DU boards.

2)The "Gong" function. An audio plugin that would actually allow you to "gong" anyone's offensive or irritating posts.

3)The "Mooning" function. No explanation really needed.

discuss.

1. Okay, a 'gong' feature and number of gong hits!
Now that would be funny! I bet I could get more gongs than you! :P

2. heh...how about any RW lie is disallowed. And... If a charge is a fact, it is not a smear

And if you question a charge that has some basis in truth, then just refute it with counter evidence so that you may inform the original poster that there are facts in evidence that counter the charge?

Seems reasonable to me, though your way is much more colorful.

3. But we could have satire meters and sarcasm level indicators.
Think of the possibilities! Endless data! Come on! Arguing is sooooooo boring. Do you see the RW argue? No. They just unplug microphones and turn the power off! Maybe an anti-sarcasm rating.

It would help new people adjust to GD IMO.

4. Slime function could damage keyboards. Suggest upgrade to "cream pie in face" java embed
What about some positive rewards instead of all the negativity.

1) "Reward" function. Add little icons of Easter eggs, Christmas candy canes, Valentine hearts, or other seasonal goodies onto strong, profound, or insightful posts

2) "Mardi Gras" fuction. Throws little cyber bead necklaces at women who post on DU with their shirts off (must be 18 or older to participate, void where prohibited, all proceeds go to Katrina relief fund)
3) "Bob Barker" function. Post recieving the highest number of K&Rs per day recieves a new '07 Hyundai Elantra
Runner up gets a year's supply of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.

5. The old Ignore..
... was fine. It allowed you to not have to deal with the words of those you could not deal with.

The newer feature was NOT fine, it allowed you to dictate that someone could not be heard at all on your thread.

Really, if there is a problem with people "harassing", there are adequate rules and procedures in place to deal with that.

9. It was a much-needed Disruptor Buster

If they were adequate, the Admins would not have introduced the Block at all.

:hi:
