I haven't read GD for a while. I just wanted to ask this: if it had been Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck who plied a 13-year-old girl with alcohol and a quaalude, and then raped and sodomized her, would he have any defenders here? Even if it had been 32 years ago?

6. The girl and her mother both received financial settlement

from Polanski.

Most such financial settlements would require the person receiving the money to stop pursuing other remedies.
Even if she wanted him drawn and quartered, she couldn't say so.

5. I don't defend Polanski. He is a convicted rapist and doesn't merit all the attention and publicity

he is receiving. There are thousands of rapists right now, convicted and still uncaught, who are a clear and present danger to thousands of victims. They are in our communities, even our neighborhoods. They merit being put in the limelight more than someone like Polanski who probably eats up the publicity.
