United Healthcare "I think we can have both a public and private system."

Thu Oct 01, 2009 at 11:37:19 AM PDT
American Medical News reported on a meeting and Congressional hearing(among insurance executives (and others).

Interesting stuff. Some quotes could be used by competent Democrats to help push the public option. Obviously to no surprise, they calmed investers by stating how excited they are about all of the new customers they will have, but there's more...

themaguffin's diary :: :: They assured investors "that, no matter what happens in health system reform, their companies would continue to exist."

Hmm I thought they would disappear. That's what I was told.

The key is that they both expect more business, don't expect their business model to change very much and additionally will coexist fine public competition.

We all know that. Democrats know that. Republicans know that. Americans who don't watch Fox Propaganda know that.

Yet the GOP and sadly too many Democrats are playing games with something critical and fundamental to most every American’s life, their health. This is insane.

Hopefully we will see some more spine from Democrats beyond Congressman Grayson.

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center had an ad campaign in the 90s that said "Choose a hospital as if you life depended on it."

How about Congress, fighting for the American people, as if their lives depended on it.

Here is the entire article:

BUSINESS

Insurers say system reform won't put them out of business

There could be boosts in business, company executives predict. Meanwhile, they offer some answers to a House subcommittee examining underwriting and denial practices.

By Emily Berry, AMNews staff. Posted Sept. 28, 2009.

Insurance executives during a September meeting assured investors that, no matter what happens in health system reform, their companies would continue to exist.

A few days later, before members of Congress, a panel of executives for some of the same companies laid out reasons why the companies should continue to exist.

1. Coming from the AMA and United Health Care, I am very suspicious of
their motives and don't trust either of them at all.

4. It sounds to me like they're covering their backsides.
They're trying to protect themselves from a stock price drop if the public option *does* pass. The fact that they're doing that signals that they think it might actually happen.
