A GOOD Argument In Favor Of Comcast Acquiring NBC Universal
Comcast would immediately relegate CNN and Fox to preimum cable in all markets, and then slide MSNBC (and probably CNBC) into basic cable.

1. Two words in opposition: Ed Snider
The CEO of Comcast-Spectacor who is a huge supporter of all things republicon and who, in a moment of resolute insanity, invited Sarah Palin to drop the first puck at a Flyers game last fall. He's a complete fucking creep.

6. Snider doesn't run Comcast itself...He runs Comcast-Spectacor....
the sports complex in Philly. Agreed, he's got some very creepy political notions. One of the better tv moments was Flyers fans booing when Ms Moosecatcher stepped onto the ice.

2. I heard a little rumor... in the last year or so...
that NBC has considered becoming a strictly cable network.

3. I'm not sure that would happen.

I live in Atlanta, where (unless you can target a dish in between buildings and hills) it's either Comcast or over-the-air. So I have Comcast.

CNN, Fox "News", CNBC, and Headline News are on basic. MSNBC and Fox Business are on one of the "premium" tiers.

Since I refuse to give Comcast any more than I have to, I depend on the Web to watch MSNBC highlights (thanks to the DUers who give me hints on what might be worth watching)

Your proposal is logical. Which is why I doubt if the Comcast suits would ever consider it.

5. I was told that
MSNBC charges COMCAST more for access. Ergo, MSNBC is on the premium lineup. I read about this on DU.

10. I guess I could always move to Charter territory
Although I admit that the cable channel package available in a place isn't exactly number one of my list of reasons to relocate. ;)

7. I fear another result.
Like the owners of all the other networks, Comcast is a giant right-wing-owned and right-wing-run corporation. For whatever unknown reason, GE has been letting MSNBC have a leftward slant and do actual journalism. I expect that if Comcast buys NBC Universal, of which MSNBC is part, we won't long have Keith, Rachel, Ed, etc.

8. Getting NBC out from under GE would be a good thing.
At least then it wouldn't have any more ties to the Military-Industrial Complex through GE's defense contracts.

11. Just as an aside ...

I heard something today about Verizon thinking about buying out DirectTV.
