Michael Moore: As far as I'm concerned, Tea Bag Nation ends today -- at noon to be precise
October 2nd, 2009 2:46 AM
'Capitalism' Opens Today at a Theater Near You! ...an invitation from Michael Moore

Friends,

For two months, we've sat and watched the rabid right achieve the unimaginable: Derail universal health care and send the Democrats in Congress running for cover. Many have asked, "How did this happen? How could a small minority of angry people control the public agenda? Where is the majority's response? Why the silence?"

I don't have the answers to all these questions. But I do know this: I've had enough. As far as I'm concerned, Tea Bag Nation ends today -- at noon to be precise. For that's when I set loose, on a thousand screens across this great land, a movie I've made that's so relentless, so dangerous, so damning in its humor, that it will -- I can only hope -- do what no movie has done before: Take them down, take them all down, once and for all.

The days of the majority of Americans being ignored and played for chumps are over as of right now. This weekend, consider your local cinema the REAL town hall meetings! Come and spend two hours with hundreds of other people who are fed up and in need of a bit of inspiration -- and a good hearty laugh at the expense of all the S.O.B.s who've wrecked our economy and laid ruin to our democracy.

I'm personally inviting you to come see what many critics are saying is my best film yet: "Capitalism: A Love Story." You will not be disappointed. I will show you things and tell you things about how the captains of corporate America have stolen our country from us. No one on the nightly news is bringing these truths to you. Beginning at noon today, I pull back the curtain and reveal who's responsible for the calamity we're in. That's right -- I name names and I explain why this economic system we have is nothing more than legalized greed, and Wall Street is nothing more than a crime syndicate in suits. You will be blown away by what you see, but you will not leave the theater in a pit of despair. I'm counting on your response to be one of exhilaration and determination. I've watched this movie in sneak previews with audiences from Pittsburgh to L.A. and I've never seen more hooting and hollering during a documentary in my life. There are actually standing O's during the movie! Weird. Cool. Down in front!

Please see "Capitalism: A Love Story" this weekend. Take a bunch of friends and make it an event. Last weekend in New York and L.A. many shows sold out (making "Capitalism" the biggest per screen average at the box office for 2009), so get your tickets early. And if you get a chance, send me a photo of what opening night looks like in your city and I'll post it on my website.

C'mon, friends -- RISE UP! This is our moment. And it comes with popcorn! Not bad!

Thank you so very much for all your support and encouragement over the years.

Yours,
Michael Moore

9. Little people bought stock in these corporations and never expected to be owned
and ordered around by them. Thank you Michael.

I hope this is just the beginning even though many people figured out what was going on by observing recent events and then learning about our real past history.

Bring our jobs back. Do not allow profits to go out of the country. Do not allow factories to go out of the country. Do not allow foreign registrations to avoid the laws in our country about pollution and workers' rights. This involves the clean up and clean out of Wall Street and the Federal Reserve System.

Say no to our courts being taken over for corporations by judges who are part of the plan.

No corporate military and intelligence to rule us.

31. 926 Posts and you are calling me a troll??
Seriously, get a grip.

If I am trolling, then either I am really good (cuz you haven't discovered me yet in 926 posts!), or you all are getting bad (cuz you haven't discovered me yet in 926 posts!). I would suggest you take a look at my other posts...instead of having a knee-jerk reaction that someone who doesn't agree, must be a troll!

Sorry if I don't blindly support what Micheal Moore does...just like I don't support everything every other Dem polictician or yakking head says and does. I like his movies, and find them entertaining, and mostly thruthful...just don't think he is the savior of the progressive cause...just like Obama is not the savior of the progressive cause (though many are disappointed he is not).

How about I mention other things that you likely don't want to hear, or refuse to deal with?

- If the Dems don't pass a worthwhile Public Option, I will never support them again (cash/time/effort) (and there are millians of others who feel the same (even on DU!))
- If the dems don't get a spine, and show they are deserving of government leadership; they will lose my support
- The Dems need a spine not only against the republicans, but their Dem "partners" as well!
- Obama needs to step away from "Let's work together", and go with "We tried to involve you, now we will do it our way" (Leading often means taking people where they don't yet know they want to go!)
- Many, if not most Dems, are owned by corp interests, as much as the republicans
- Mark my words....in the future you just might hear a Dem saying "We sure tried, and fought the good fight, but just couldn't get a concensus on healthcare....but vote for me because I am your best chance to make it happen!" Yeah, right! Obama and the Dems get one chance at this...and so far they are failing exactly as they have failed in the past (illegal war, Wiretapping, PATRIOT Act, etc)

Here are some things you can do to feel better:

- Please do 'recommend away', my "un-recommend"; (because that makes as much change as my unreccomend did!)
- Please, put blind faith in MM that "Certainly HE will effect change"...instaead of all the policticians you helped elect, but are spitting in your face, in direct defiance to why you elected them!
- Please don't ask why, if this film is so important/life-altering, is MM not showing it for free on the opening night, or making it available for free use to local meetups etc?
- Please squash any dissent on DU, so you can be more like FR or any conservative group that does the same when someone doesn't agree!
- Please imagine that I am the only person on DU that questions posts that are basically an advertisement

That is all...enjoy the movie, I'll wait for it to show up at the library...Just don't call me a troll without any evidence t support that,

NAMF

53. Who's calling Moore the savior of progressive causes?
We're all talking about seeing a movie that highlights the non-productive greed of a few at the expense of the many.

Liberals usually are open-minded and don't follow blindly. But you seem to have your mind made up.

So it's a fair question to ask: If you haven't seen the movie, why are you so negative? If you have seen it, then please explain what it is specifically you don't like.

84. WE HAVE THE POWER!
Remember that?
15 years ago I was shopping & wanted a variety pack of cereal for ADULTS NOT KIDS marshmellow, coco puffs, crap. I tuned in to the corporate deception behind it, realized they were more expensive than a standard box.I turned to an older black couple
near me ( I think they were Navy)and said " We elders are the new blacks aren't we?" They nodded assent . pleased that this "maine line type" female had GOTTEN IT! I have been living Michael Moore's Capitalism ever since...........If I had camera equipment I would have made it myself. All the while I have watched the majority dupped (doped?) into believing that they couldn't live with out.........THIS STUFF!
If WE rejected ALL THE SHINEY TOYS, ( yes tylanol, best buy's goodies ( tough for we techy types)it would bring the corporations to their knees and this would STOP!
HOW MANY OF YOU REJECT FAST FOODS......BUT THEN INDULGE IN THE LATEST MICROSOFT GADGET? They are one of the worst corps in the country!
I have lived on an average income of $6-7,000. per year for the LAST 20 YEARS...........( thanks to the hostile overthrow of 1989,) and I have never been happier! ( I was born with silver energy stocks in my bank account)

in getting them to reject corporate-capitalism and unfair lobbying for businesses. It's only 4-5 bucks for a matinee, or if you get a discount as an elderly or other discount (I get one for being associated with a company that interacts with them). And big deal if you spend 8-12 bucks going to see this to get educated. The facts are presented as they always are, people need this, who cares if a good guy gets richer. He's not a nasty CEO.

35. How else is this important message to get out?
We live in a capitalistic society, as MM points out, so the camera persons, grips, and all the other film workers need to be paid. Then there's the distributors, and the theater chains. And for a film like this no doubt lawyers to comb every frame because you just know the reichstag's lawyers will do the same to find any small mistake. And of course, MM gets to earn a living from a lot of hard work and stress.

What do you want? That everyone works for free for him? Or that he holds fundraisers to raise money for some undisclosed new film that he can't reveal because it would jeopardize his access to his targets? And that he only shows it in high school auditoriums that donate space for it?

And here you don't want him to encourage DUers to see the film? So you don't want any publicity allowed?
Here's the rub. If you don't ever know its playing, you'll never go see it.

43. Yes. Charging $8 for a movie (the going rate) is exactly like bailing out AIG.
"AIG suffered from a liquidity crisis when its credit ratings were downgraded below "AA" levels in September 2008. The United States Federal Reserve Bank on September 16, 2008, created an $85 billion credit facility to enable the company to meet increased collateral obligations consequent to the credit rating downgrade, in exchange for the issuance of a stock warrant to the Federal Reserve Bank for 79.9% of the equity of AIG. The Federal Reserve Bank and the United States Treasury by May 2009 had increased the potential financial support to AIG, with the support of an investment of as much as $70 billion, a $60 billion credit line and $52.5 billion to buy mortgage-based assets owned or guaranteed by AIG, increasing the total amount available to as much as $182.5 billion.<3><4> AIG subsequently sold a number of its subsidiaries and other assets to pay down loans received, and continues to seek buyers of its assets. In March 2009, AIG faced public outrage and media and political backlash for its retention payments of $165 million."

"There's (a sucker) born every minute..."

Except it's just a fee to listen to someone make a gut-wrenching, tap-dancing show about something most people already know.

Not as money as AIG, obviously, but it adds up.

And you are absolutely right - it is nothing more than a really LAME-ASS commercial.

Moore is a FRAUD, inciting people to engage in terroristic acts, while he sits back, rakes it in, and goes to the bank.

F-R-A-U-D.

(I've posted various snippets in the past; for being anti-capitalism he sure loved to whine when someone took a clean copy of one of his movies and put it on the internet. No, I didn't believe his context.)

He's the left-wing equivalent to Limbaugh. Period.

27. Go Mike!!
I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs. --Thomas Jefferson

so many of America's problems will be solved if you just go pay to see my movie.

It won't really change anything, but it will put several hundred thousand dollars in Mike's pocket.

I was so happy to see him take the corporate Democratic Congressmen to town, as well as the Republicans. I only wish this movie could have come out sooner.

57. My theater is not showing it. I am furious. They have had many many calls for people wanting to see
it. They emailed corporate. Guess where Corporate is ...right in the heart of red state.....TX Plano to be exact. I called corporate and demanded a call back. I told them this better not be a political decisions as I would picket the theater out on the main street in town. The poor manager here said they called corporate, emailed them and haven't got a clear answer to the many calls they have recieved. I told him I would and I am gonna get an answer. It better not be political.

62. Rush Limbaugh uses the term "Friends," too. Is he?
Moore is trolling for money and then telling you to rise up and revolt and another thread has him throwing a tantrum, saying he won't make any more movies if people don't rise up for a revolution... well, take a viagra and make the first rise for people to follow... (Hint: More people prefer President Obama's ability to lead than Moore's Limbaughesque traits of winding people up around his little finger...)

66. And yet many on DU whine and grumble about how they hate 'reality shows'.
Edited on Fri Oct-02-09 11:34 PM by Deja Q
That's what Moore does. Takes reality and spins them for some desired emotional effect.

Pied piper mentality. Ironic...

He says "You're welcome" too, as he runs to the bank.

76. Good luck with that.
Sorry to sound negative. I like the film and I haven't even seen it, but anyone hoping that it will bring about major change is related to Pollyanna. Fahrenheit 911 didn't end the war or get Bush impeached, and this film will just be another sermon to the choir. The MSM will invent a couple of errors in the film and relegate it to bad propaganda. The teabaggers will not be moved. It's going to take more than 10% unemployment and a movie to overthrow capitalism.

78. The tea baggers will eat up the lies about it. No doubt about that,
but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets the attention of the rest of the country. I hope it has a lot bigger impact than Fahrenheit 9/11.
Given the condition of the economy it may really create an uproar.

86. Nothing can get the attention of Americans.......
let alone retain it. Sure, a goodly number of Americans will see the movie and be outraged, for a day or two. Maybe a little longer. Then they'll be distracted by whatever sensationalistic tripe the corporate media shoves down their throats and it will be forgotten.

Americans are too self-absorbed to form any sort of movement. The old adage "herding cats" comes to mind. And even if they were to break from that mold for an instant, the corporate giants would distract them in a heartbeat with some red meat "issue" that would make people forget all about Michael Moore's latest gaze into the looking glass. Americans really don't like to see their true reflections in the mirror. They much prefer the mirrors provided by corporate America that make their reflections look SOOOOO GOOD! :woohoo: USA! USA! USA! :puke:

If you couldn't tell, I have a very low opinion of the "average" American nowadays, but it's one that is well deserved, in my opinion. I see Moore's latest effort as another exercise in futility, although I'm sure it will make his financial world a better place in which he can dwell. But that's just the overwhelming cynic in me talking.

79. I saw it. I think you may be right.
It was a good film, but nothing new for any DUer. And how do you get those that need to see it into the theater?

Moore's movie artfully and humorously describes how badly we've been fucked, but not what to do next.

I didn't see errors in the film, but I bet they will take him apart for clowning.
