great plains with buffalo to help people with industry. Ah, Wes. I love ya.

3. I haven't seen anybody comparing this documentary to health care reform.
It's perfectly timed.

National Parks are something the federal government right, and it's something only the federal government can do right.

There are a lot of business interests against it.

A lot of dipshits oppose it while they're trying to get legislation passed, but once that happens everybody loves it.

8. Wyoming...case in point
Fought tooth and nail against expanding the grand teton national park, and now they put in on their license plates. Same with Arizona.

5. I carry Buffalo medicine
I honor that and that I was given the understanding of what buffalo meant to the people.

During the same vision, I was gifted my name by the great buffalo spirit.

Whenever I see buffalo, I remember.

7. I Haven't Seen the Ken Burns Programs
but I did see some of the BBC series on Yellowstone last night. It's the full "Planet Earth" treatment -- truly amazing and inspiring.

And lots of buffalo. (I noticed -- they're my totem animal.)

15. I had an experience a couple of years ago in Yellowstone. I'm not the first
person here to experience it I'm sure but it was a really cool thing to me. Me and my s/o lived near Jackson, WY, for awhile and, of course, had to go check out Yellowstone. We hadn't gotten far in to the park when we saw a bear. But, further up the road toward Old Faithful, we approached a blockade of buffalo in the road. There was about 60 of them walking right toward us and I was amazed the closer they got how BIG they are! We were driving a Dodge Neon and they were taller than the car! It was just us and them so we stopped the car allowing them to pass. As they approach, they split and went to each side of the car nearly brushing up against us, which we were lucky one didn't take off our side-view mirrors.

A bit further down the road we saw a large bull elk with several of his cows along the river. It was fascinating to see him interact with them. At one point, one of the cows stepped down into the river with just her front hooves and the male, who was standing in the river near the bank, charged her and ran her back up on the river bank. We were less than 100 feet from them across the river.

Yellowstone is a treasure.

16. Along the Minnesota / Ontario border in Canoe Country ...
.... I had a bear come out and watch my friend and I canoe fish for about an hour. He/she followed
us along the shore line ... it looked like he was laughing @ us. He ate blueberries and flipped a log
looking for grubs .... the fishing was wild too.

27. Yellowstone is where I found out that bears are REALLY FAST.
An adolescent grizzly male was lunbering along the other side of Firehole River just outside the Biscuit Basin area. We thought we would run along on the other side and take some photos. He was just casually sauntering, no effort at all. We, on the hand had to maintain almost a dead run just to keep up.

21. Buffalo, yes. The affection for Ken Burns, I don't get.
But that happens a lot. I couldn't stand Steve Irwin or the Katz brothers. The other guy was kind of OK, but he tried way too hard to be cute.

Edited on Fri Oct-02-09 09:01 PM by pipoman
their unperverted by genetic science, prehistoric beauty is amazing.

I took this shot on the Kansas Tall Grass Prairie in the Flint Hills. The vastness of the Flint Hills housed huge herds for thousands of years. This calf was born just hours before this photo was taken. Note the umbilical on the calf.

26. Yes--love me some tatanka, and also Ken Burns.
Just finished watching the last episode, and I am reminded that oftentimes, at crucial junctures, we Americans end up doing the right thing. That is reassuring. BTW, never approach bison, I have seen firsthand what they can do to a human body, and it is not pretty. They are not like cows, and they are FAST.
