The GOP has undergone a real transformation in the months since the President was inaugurated.
The "birthers", the "deathers" and the "teabaggers" seem to be doing the majority of the speaking for their Party with figure heads like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck calling the shots.
Meanwhile, elected Republicans are simply going with the flow. When asked if they believe that healthcare reform contains language requiring death panels or if the President is a natural born citizen, the answers seem to come in the form of denial but not so much that they might bother donors and supporters. Most importantly, they seem to be avoided teh ire of their media overlords.
It is easy to look at crowds with misspelled signs and seemingly disjointed messages and shrug them off as the lunatic fringe. But the reality is that the are being fueled by more than their own hysteria. Organizations like Americans for Prosperity and Freedom Works are behind a great deal of the frenzy. With the dissemination of misinformation and the organization of Tea Parties, they continue to stroke the anti-Obama, anti-reform fires all the while lending credibility to otherwise ridiculous causes. So where does this leave the GOP? Is the Republican Party really wandering in the tall grass or are they crazy like a fox? It remains to be seen what the impact of Tea Parties and events like the 9/12 Project will have. It is posible that all teh righteous indignation will translate into turnout on Election Day and that is the scenario that Democrats must be prepared for
