People, Rep. Grayson made a hell of speech, is a good presence on the Cable
and he looks like a great fighter...

But are we really that desperate for a new voice, after, what, nine months, that we are willing to embrace a one-term congressperson from Florida, of all places, as the savior of our party.

Now I know this is going to anger a whole mess of people here on DU, but look what happened to the GOP when they embraced someone who made one "good" speech. I doubt if that will happen to Rep. Grayson since he seems to know how to use all the parts of speech, not just the declarative, but we don't know hardly anything else about him.

I find it a little disingenuous of people to say that Rep Grayson is the best thing since sliced bread and that we should send him to the White House to start measuring the Oval Office for curtains after barely a week in the lime light.

Let's see how he does through the whole term, see if he gets re-elected first and then maybe take a look at his potential career.

1. Grayson is interesting, and maybe the Next Big Thing . . .
but more importantly, he can serve as a catalyst, shaming more "temperate" dems into fighting back when the wingnuts fling turds in their faces. If he's the trigger for a more spine-equipped Democratic party, he can still be a "savior" without necessarily being a genuinely high-calibre individual himself.

Also, it's early days in his heightened visibility. Let's see what the future brings.

3. I never heard of Grayson
before the speech. But after his "apology" on the floor, I was blown away by his cojones. And watching his appearance on Wolfie's show handing Borger and Castellanos a beatdown, I was further impressed. This IS what the Dems have been missing... taking the fight to the enemy. I'm on board. Not saying he is ready for the WH, but a Field General who knows how to lead and stand up and fight.

6. Obama made one great speech and was embraced - Alan has been
fighting for awhile for people - I can see the enthusiasm - I would talk about his ads last election season and said all dems needed ads like his - the threads dropped - I am glad he is out in the light now

7. This is cool...
I am so glad people are gravitating to someone like Grayson who seems to be the Id of a contradictory party that is at once new and exacting as well as seemingly moribund.

8. We have time indeed...
To see how he shapes up...

To see how he does with the pressures of the limelight...

If he's good now, and he looks like he is...

Then he should be good down the road.

13. I sure appreciate the fighters I'm seeing on our side now.
The more the better as far as I am concerned. We were getting drowned out for so long now. It is about time we give some from the gut talks to the masses.

14. I also admire Grayson for going after war profiteers.

I also admire his readiness to utilize the emotional grandstanding vote against the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now to apply not just to the group that's been helping the poor navigate our leaky social safety nets and register to vote for 40 years, but to any private contractor hired by the government that has been convicted of fraud. And whoops, there are some famous corporations whose fraud amounts to far more than the annual budget of ACORN.

The congressional legislation intended to defund ACORN, passed with broad bipartisan support, is written so broadly that it applies to "any organization" that has been charged with breaking federal or state election laws, lobbying disclosure laws, campaign finance laws or filing fraudulent paperwork with any federal or state agency. It also applies to any of the employees, contractors or other folks affiliated with a group charged with any of those things.

In other words, the bill could plausibly defund the entire military-industrial complex. Whoops.

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) picked up on the legislative overreach and asked the Project on Government Oversight (POGO) to sift through its database to find which contractors might be caught in the ACORN net.

Lockheed Martin and Northrop Gumman both popped up quickly, with 20 fraud cases between them, and the longer list is a Who's Who of weapons manufacturers and defense contractors.

The language was written by the GOP and filed as a "motion to recommit" in the House, where it passed 345-75.
