My cousin will withdraw her kids from their "Christian" school next semester
Why? They chose not to air President Obama's back to school speech on September 8. In fact, they pretended like it did not even exist at all. Even parents who wanted their kids to see it were out of luck. The school would not excuse absences for parents to keep their kids at home for the brief period of time that it would take to watch the speech. Nope. Not allowed.

Now my cousin respects that this is a private school, and these decisions are their right. But guess what? She has the right to express her disapproval as well, and pull her kids out of the school next semester. And that's what she is in the process of doing.

1. the school will probably appreciate the departure of such subversive elements...
her kids might have actually even started spreading truth to other students.

2. Good for your cousin but are you sure
that the title "Christian School" really applies here?

3. Wait a minute, what do you mean the school would not approve absences?
I'm very curious about that and blue state, I don't doubt you for a second, so I take what you say as the truth but how could they do that?
If your cousin showed up and said "Let's Go' what would the school have done?
Suspended the kids?
Shot or jailed the parents?

If it's a private school, isn't she paying to send the kids there?

That's the reason for pulling the kids out of school, not for the refusal to show the Obama speech.

I just find that shocking and I support your cousins decision 100%

And I would make sure that someone got a piece of my mind on the way out the door.

Good luck to your cousin, she's doing the right thing.
The kids will be SO much better off.

I was going to say something nasty about these so called "Christians" as I wrapped up my post, but I will refrain from doing so.

10. Probably means the absence would count against them rather than be excused
In my school you only get so many absences each semester. Getting out of school for educational reasons (college fair, field trip, etc) are excused in the sense that they do not count toward the total.

9. we pulled kids out of private christian and they were fearful, and sad, but
Edited on Sat Oct-03-09 01:37 PM by seabeyond
sometimes a parent does what is best. the atmosphere became too unhealthy. we spent a lot of time trying ot work from the inside. at a point we decided the cons outweighed the pros and made the decision

then we made the transition as gracefully and positive as possible for the children

they were well aware of the more than one reasons they were pulled from the christian private. and they were taught to embrace change and be a part of making it a positive experience for themselves.

not only was it the right choice, but today everyone in the family appreciate the experience of private christian (good/bad) the experience of transition and see it as the best step. we are thankful we took that step.

if not done with children's interest, then can be bad. if done with intent for health and education of children, it will be positive.
