lesson. Kids will only wait so long for their drunk parents to pull it together

Mom Of Wandering Kids Found Drunk In Her Car

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ;

A woman found two toddlers wandering across a busy Broward county street, and a short time later, police arrested their mom for DUI. She had allegedly passed out in the car in her Cooper City driveway and the kids were found two miles away.

According to police, Brenda Duclos was driving drunk with her two kids in the backseat Monday evening. When she pulled into the driveway of her Cooper City home, she passed out behind the wheel with the 3-year-old and 4-year-old still inside the car.

Police say, after several hours, the children got out of the car and started walking. They were found two miles from home trying to cross busy Palm Avenue.

Susie Grace found the two young children ready to cross a busy street, while police say the children's mother was miles away, passed out in her car drunk.

"The cars are whizzing by them," Grace told CBS4's Joan Murray, describing what she saw as she drove home Wednesday afternoon -- a 4-year-old girl clutching the hand of her 3-year-old brother trying to cross. "I ran across the road and the kids started to run to the sidewalk and I said, 'It's okay. It's okay. I'm your friend. Let's sit down. We sat down criss-cross, applesauce on the sidewalk and I asked them what their names were and where they lived and they didn't seem to like, 'I don't know' and 'Where's mommy?'

who was visiting his family.

it's so sad. You can do this and you can do that to penalize and intervene. But all too often it doesn't end until a tragedy strikes.

11. Obviously you have not been here very long
Smoking is a worse sin than drinking, wars, lack of health care, etc.

What this woman did is really not all that bad, could be worse, she could have been smoking and breastfeeding at the Olive Garden.

;)

4. Poor babies. Two miles is a long way for such little ones to walk before someone
finally helped them. It's very fortunate they weren't seriously hurt.

5. That is going to be one sorry mother; this is where it all falls apart for her...
Good gods that's scary. I hope she gets the help she needs, and if she can't stick with it then I hope the kids find safe harbor elsewhere.

One of the most disturbing things I ever saw was a young couple pushing a stroller walking past my bus stop. She was stumbling slightly and whining that she had only stopped by the bar (in mid-day, with the baby) for a little drink. He was furious, but controlled. My heart went out to him more than her, frankly... for more reasons than I care to enumerate.

6. To hell with her......
I just hope they take the kids away and don't give them back. Next time they'll probably end up dead!

7. Another story that makes me wish

we could put potential parents to a test before allowing them to breed. Unfortunately, the Nazi or Big Brother overtones make that impossible for a liberal mind.

We should instead be pushing social education and making it a high school course for kids to work with underprivileged families. The priorities in this country are so blatantly for $$$ and nothing else, it just gets sickening after awhile.

(edited for a spelling misteak :-)
