'House Party' Windows 7 to come in 'Steve Ballmer' edition.

In case you were worried there weren't enough versions of Windows 7, there's one more to add to the collection.

It's the Steve Ballmer "signature edition." Under the hood it's Windows 7 Ultimate, but on the outside it's got a snazzy look plus the autograph of Microsoft's chief executive. It's not unlike what Microsoft did with Vista, though in that case it was Bill Gates adding his John Hancock to the packaging.

Microsoft is giving those who host a Windows 7 house party a Steve Ballmer edition of Windows 7, not unlike this Bill Gates version of Windows Vista Ultimate.

The Ballmer edition came to light after one Windows enthusiast got their party kit early after complaining to Ballmer that they weren't eligible to participate because of their location. Eventually, they were sent a party kit anyway, including the Ballmer version of Windows.

For those familiar with MS Steve, Windows house parties are likely to feature unique dances, followed by a ceremonial throwing of chairs into the fireplace.

I shudder to think what the Vista parties were like.

3. That 'monkey dance' was listed by Fortune as
one of the top 100 PR disasters of the twentieth century. Unforgettable. A ity no footage of throwing office chairs survives ;)

I'm having nightmares tonight.

<shudder>

I can't imagine what actually having to deal with Ballmer on a daily basis would be like.

10. Too bad the file copy dialogs don't feature
an icon of Ballmer throwing a chair across the window where it lands in a folder icon....over and over...LOL!

All joking aside, I've been using Windows 7 Enterprise quite a bit (I'm in IT, and we're a Volume License shop so we get the ISO's and keys much earlier than retail channels) and it's what Vista should have been. I'm test-trickling it out to a couple users as well as running my own console on it, and so far it's been really solid. I even have it running on a brand-new 24" iMac I just deployed for the advertising director under Snow Leopard and Parallels Desktop. I allotted one CPU core and 1GB of RAM to the virtual machine running Windows 7, and the apps that need to run under it (Office, Outlook, and Microsoft Dynamics NAV business software) are nice and snappy. I've got a few quad-cores running it, and even a 2.4GHz Celeron with 2GB RAM that is running 64-bit Windows 7 flawlessly.

I'll go so far as to say don't buy a PC until they're shipping with Windows 7. XP can finally be put out to pasture, I think. :) (Except for my ProTools box, my version requires XP and if I want to run PT under 7 I have to buy an expensive upgrade. No thanks.)

As an aside, I can't sit down at that 24" iMac without severely wanting one. The screen is to die for...just gorgeous! Apple's curiously always a couple generations behind in the Intel chips they use (these machines have no reasonable excuse for not having Core 2 Quads instead of Duos, let alone an i5 or i7) but they're really smooth in use, and feel wicked fast.

15. I like the Windows 7 beta ok, But Steve Ballmer gives me the creeps, and I would probably
get very very ill and throw up if somebody gave me a "signature edition."

But then again, I don;t think I would ever go to a Microsoft "HOUSE PARTY."

16. Wow. Looks just like the Windows Vista Ultimate edition signed by Gates. Behind the signature, it
reads "Than you, sucka". That was vista. For Win7, it reads "Fooled you twice, sucka". Twice.
