Homeless Woman Shot and Killed, Suspicion of "Hate Crime"
A gunman opened fire on a 39-year-old woman and her friend early Saturday morning in what Phoenix police are calling a possible hate crime.

The woman, whose name wasn't released, was shot dead. Her friend, Jeffrey Wellmaker, 48, told police he and the woman were walking in Palma Park, on 12th Street and Dunlap Avenue around 1:30 a.m. when a heavily tattooed, bald White man confronted them.

Wellmaker, who is Black, said the tattooed man yelled, "What are you doing with that White woman," said Detective James Holmes, a Phoenix police spokesman. The friends, who are homeless, didn't respond and kept walking, Holmes said. Investigators don't know why the couple was in the park, police said.

The tattooed man followed the pair for a couple blocks. By the time the couple reached 4th Street and Puget Avenue, Wellmaker saw a white four-door newer model sedan with tinted windows drive past them, Holmes said. In the passenger seat was the tattooed man.

How can there be any doubt this was a racist hate crime.

1. Let's not jump to conclusions - I mean, he could have just been showing them his gun

The sad thing is that some DU'ers think no one in America is racist or would ever commit a hate crime...and they will probably bleat this shit too...

2. What are you doing with that white woman?
Then the racist asshole shoots the white woman. A demonstration of the craziness of the racists. This guy shouldn't be hard to find. I imagine he's fled the area, but the description is pretty telling. The car will lead them to this killer.

The worst part of this story is the police "not knowing why the couple was in the park." Going for a walk in a public park, perhaps? One of the few pleasures available for the homeless...

3. That caught my eye too, as if they were 'inviting' their attack by 'walking in the park'
why does anyone walk in the park, cause it's a park....idiots!

4. It's a sign that the police aren't going to give finding the killer
100% of their efforts. It's just a homeless woman, after all, they think. It's one of the saddest things about our society right now. Homeless people are treated like smelly garbage, and by people who are only a few paychecks from being homeless themselves.

6. actually, it's not
it could just be a sign the journalist asked that question "why were they in the park" and the cops said "we don't know"

people who try to read too much into vague media accounts can draw all kinds of unsupported conclusions.

i have had some reporters ask me some strange questions like that. it's certainly one of many possibilities
