A dead humpback whale was found in Tampa Bay today and is being towed to Fort De Soto Park, according to the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office.

The whale was found about 10 a.m. today near Port Sutton.

The sheriff's Marine Unit has secured the whale and a boat is en route to tow the whale, which is a shipping hazard, to Fort De Soto for recovery and necropsy.

The whale is expected to reach Fort De Soto sometime after 2:30 p.m.

Check back with Tampabay.com later for further details.

3. Lotta hungry (homeless or below-poverty-line) folks in Tampa.

If that whale's fresh and hasn't started rotting, the city oughta chop it up and put it on ice until the scientists get done examining it. If it didn't die of some toxin overdose, or something else that'd make the meat unsafe...

...well, all-you-can-eat buffet for people in need, anybody?

Edit: Scratch that. Apparently this carcass is "fairly decomposed." Still, if a fresh one ever turns up...
