The Democrats, Pres Obama and Supporters are losing it
Edited on Sun Oct-04-09 03:27 PM by kayla9170
Before you read...this is a copy of a posting I did at DK, where I was accused of many things by some, except being a child of God. It is Crazy to me that I cannot express my opinion without some questioning if I ever voted for President Obama in the first place....which I did. What I will add at the end of this posting is what I believe President Obama could have done in this first eight months...besides the Health Care Bill...that would have went a long way with voters like me. Feel free to share your opinions....I think I am ready after the roasting by some at DK. Thanks!!!

________________________________________________________________________________________

I am prepared in advance to be called a troll, quack or whatever else for this diary but this is what I believe in my heart is the truth. President Obama and the Democratic Congress are losing it. Some Progressives, Liberals and Moderate Independents...like myself....are beginning to wonder what is going on. The Glenn Becks, Michelle Malkins and Rush Limpballs, etc...are beginning to smell the seeds of success.

My question is why is this happening? We have the power in the Congress and the office of President. My thoughts, maybe to much power eats away at the core of the circle......

Personally, I think the 2016 failed Olympics campaign overseas for President Obama was a set-up. He went to frankly beg on behalf of Chicago to have the games in 2016. In a earlier diary I wrote, I stated that we, as Americans, have bigger problems than getting the Olympics 7 years from now. In my state of Michigan, we have a 16.5% unemployment rate and the 5th highest foreclosure rate in the nation. I can say that on behalf of Michiganders, the possible 2016 games did nothing to help 2009 problems here.

The games failed attempted, I believe, opened up another avenue (abiet negative) for President Obama. It gave the MSM and others an opportunity to open up on the so-called failures in his 8 month Presidency so far.

I do not really watch SNL, except during the Palin episodes of the last election because Tina Fey did SUCH a good job. One of yesterday's skits by Fred A,. had what I saw is a beginning of President Obama slip-hole into months of MSM and other outlets, news stories about him not getting things done.

We cannot depend on the 60 votes in the Senate and the majority in the house (ok..maybe a Public Option will pass the House but probably not the Senate) to get a real health care bill passed with a public opinion. I understand the "Blue Dogs" are holding this up but who elected these "Blue Dogs"....we did reluctantly.

Now the climate change bill will probably not have a vote, expanding unemployment insurance is being held up in the Senate, the Housing Bill that was a GIFT to the TARPed bailed out banks is flat out FAILING to keep homeowners from renegotiating the toxic ARM'S they are in, local schools are cutting teachers and salaries, which in turn are hurting students, college scholarship programs are being cut or eliminated by the states, the unemployment rate keeps on climbing.....I could go on and on.

This is the Congress and President that WE elected. So far, not good at all. Why is this so? Well, I would suggest if you have not yet, see Michael Moore's-Capitalism-A Love Story movie. This will open your eyes to explain that our officials for the most part are in bed with the Corporations that are killing the American Society as we know it.

In turn, we...liberals, progressives and moderates are beginning to eat our own. Upset and angry about the Change we are not seeing, we turn on ourselves, between people that voted for President Obama and are disappointed and those that voted for President Obama and still want to believe.

Meanwhile, neither one of these groups are doing better really! Has your life gotten better or worse the last eight months? Are you (like my husband and I) are one of the people in a ARM resetting next year, that have paid ON-TIME for years and the mortgage company does not want to talk to you? Are you wondering why we elected these people if they were not going to do nothing about it? Or, do you believe Congress and the President only had 8 months....we should give them more time to fix this mess?

Well, I like many other voters are wondering WHAT DO WE DO NOW!!! We know the GOP do not have our best interest at heart. We wanted to believe that the Democrats did....but we have yet to see if that is true.

Heck, the leading Senator (who suppose to be a Democrat...a.k.a. Blue Dog) on the Finance Committee believes for some reason...with Unemployment Increasing, Wages Decreasing, Taxes Increasing, Mortgage Troubles, Increasing College Tuitions will little help for Middle Class families....that we can actually afford to pay $6,300 dollars a year on a $60,000 salary for health insurance?? The worst part, if we do not buy said insurance, we will be faced with a fine!!! IS THIS THE BEST THE DEMOCRATS CAN DO??

I will not vote for the GOP but the noise on the other side is frankly, scathing. To hear the consistent racism that is allowed without response, from the likes of Beck, Limpballs and Malkins....without a true shut down response (except for Maddow and Olbermann) from the other side is scary. Were is the Jesse Jackson's and Al Shapton's on this one? Were are the other Congressional Democratic Leadership? Why is this not labeled as what it is HATE SPEECH and shut down?

I saw, during the campaign, many young African-Americans that will probably on the next round, stay home. Why, you might ask.....because one, they see the crap I described above and wonder why did they waste their time! When a President of their color can be described as a Nazi, Messiah, and the other vile things that have been said on the Right with all the education that he has.....what does that say for them? Add on top of that, no jobs, parents with little income and the possibly of losing their home....and you have a young generation of non-believers.

Do I know what the answer is now....nope. I do know that I am angry and upset that we are eating our own. I know that in a state like mines (Michigan) and it's 17 electoral votes....that if a majority of people stay home in November of 2011, President Obama will have a repeat of the John Engler and James Blanchard governor's race, were the Democratic Governor Blanchard lost the Race to Republican John Engler because the people of S.E. Michigan, stayed home after questioning Blanchard's leadership. They did not vote for Engler, but enough people did, and the result was 8 years of GOP leadership in Lansing, MI.

President Obama and the Democratic leadership need to get their crap together NOW!! Opinions are being set, the mood is turning, the MSM is beginning its' hatchet job and its' beginning to work on 2012 voter like me and many, many others.

The two things President Obama should have done in the first eight months are IMHO:

1. Imposed a FDR type WAP bill in the Stimulus Package. This would have put people back to work on Government Projects. I could think of one area Detroit, that could use many boarded up buildings knocked down, cleaned out and trashed picked up, like yesterday. This could have been a place to start many of the unemployed with little skill to obtain a job elsewhere in this economy.

2. Imposed a real Homeowners Bill that would have mandated the banks (with the money they received from US) to renegotiate all mortgages on homeowners that have paid their payments up to date. For those that had not, review their payment history before their ARM's increased to see if they paid on time.....and allow them to renegotiate also. If they paid late prior too the ARM's re-setting.....then allow that decision to be up to the lender.

Both of these things would have went a Long Way in my eyes of approving the President's job, so far....minus the health care bill.

2. First of all, your post runs off the right side of the page.
Secondly, when posters hide their profile, I tend to not take them seriously because I figure there's something someone is trying to hide...I know I'm the asshole here.
Third, I guess I'm just not all up into the hysterics after only 8 months of some pretty decent accomplishments by President Obama. I learned how to curb my instant gratification.

But what the fuck do I know? I've only been at DU for, what, 7 years?

Not everyone with a small post count is a troll (although most of them are.) I think this post is from the heart.

8. You're living in a dream world. The stimulus the President got
was only gained by pissing off the rethugs who are still complaining about it. Is your memory that short? Can you suggest exactly how he might have gotten an even bigger plan through?

I agree a bigger one was needed, but he's not a magician.

Your whole post...the sky is falling! Be very afraid!!

And you may 'smell the seeds of success' in the r/w screeching heads, but I don't. I think they're desperate. I don't quite know what to make of you.

11. You really want a "sky is falling"?
"A Coming Crisis

The derivatives market represents a massive threat to the stability of the global economy. However, it is one among many threats, all of which are related and intertwined; one will set off another. The big elephant in the room is the major financial bubble created from the bailouts and “stimulus” packages worldwide. This money has been used by major banks to consolidate the economy; buying up smaller banks and absorbing the real economy; productive industry. The money has also gone into speculation, feeding the derivatives bubble and leading to a rise in stock markets, a completely illusory and manufactured occurrence. The bailouts have, in effect, fed the derivatives bubble to dangerous new levels as well as inflating the stock market to an unsustainable position.

However, a massive threat looms in the cost of the bailouts and so-called “stimulus” packages. The economic crisis was created as a result of low interest rates and easy money: high-risk loans were being made, money was invested in anything and everything, the housing market inflated, the commercial real estate market inflated, derivatives trade soared to the hundreds of trillions per year, speculation ran rampant and dominated the global financial system. Hedge funds were the willing facilitators of the derivatives trade, and the large banks were the major participants and holders.

At the same time, governments spent money loosely, specifically the United States, paying for multi-trillion dollar wars and defense budgets, printing money out of thin air, courtesy of the global central banking system. All the money that was produced, in turn, produced debt. By 2007, the total debt – domestic, commercial and consumer debt – of the United States stood at a shocking $51 trillion.<17>

As if this debt burden was not enough, considering it would be impossible to ever pay back, the past two years has seen the most expansive and rapid debt expansion ever seen in world history – in the form of stimulus and bailout packages around the world. In July of 2009, it was reported that, “U.S. taxpayers may be on the hook for as much as $23.7 trillion to bolster the economy and bail out financial companies, said Neil Barofsky, special inspector general for the Treasury’s Troubled Asset Relief Program.”<18>"

14. Repubs complain about everything
It doesn't matter how big or small their grievance is. There's no reason to consider them especially with 60 senate votes.

...the only problem is the blue dogs, not the republicans.

16. Agreed....he probably could not have gotten a bigger Stimulus Bill
Edited on Sun Oct-04-09 03:43 PM by kayla9170
But I do believe that he should have directed the help to the citizens first. A real employment program along with the third extension of unemployment compensation might have really taken a bite out of the ever increasing unemployment rate....especially here in Michigan. Trust me when I say this....in Detroit, their are PLENTY of things to do with labor....like knock down boarded up and fired destroyed buildings (many), pick up the trash everywhere, cut lawns (now get ready to shove snow) and the list could go on and on. A nice beautification project could last for years in Detroit and decrease the 40% unemployment rate......with a LARGE amount of that coming from a low or unskilled labor force. This should have been used across the nation also!

Second....homeowners who are in a ARM that have paid their mortgage on-time up to the point of the ARM increasing or are still paying the mortgage...ON-TIME should have received opportunity to renegotiate their mortgage rate to a affordable rate. No 30% or whatever the HOPE program thing is now...because the banks are playing with the numbers and people are losing their hard earned credit trying to qualify for the program. President Obama really should have used the original Stimulus money to do these two things.

13. I don't think you're a troll....
But I do think you watch the MSM too much and are buying into their hysteria. They are not interested in "news" they are interested in viewership. Sensationalized bullshit serves their needs better.

I also think you are underestimating corporate control in Washington. Baucus does not think we can afford his insurance. He just doesn't care. His loyalties are to the health care lobbyists that sustain his career. His bill serves his needs very well.

19. Agreed....That is why his "Bill" should not have the legs
To make it out of the committee, period. I believe their are two other Democrats on the finance committee that for some reason believe that real health care reform should equal handouts to the insurance companies. These two need a FDR type go into a little room discussion about if you do not vote for the P.O. not only will you not win your upcoming election but we will find ways to ruin you after you left office. If this is what it takes to get REAL Health Care reform passed, this is what needs to be done....You Think???

and they are not as obsessed with punishing people as the Baucus Disaster.

Media acts as if Baucus is the final bill. IT ISN"T. Most of it is going away.

22. Nothing has been done to fix the financial crisis....
all of the derivatives, credit default swaps and toxic loans are STILL there. The dollar is falling and most of the world is looking to dump the dollar as the currency of record. BRIC is the new economic powerhouse. (Brazil-Russia-India-China)

All we have done is put a band-aid on an artery. The coming commercial real estate crash is going to dwarf the residential real estate crash.

How can you fix the economy using Timothy Geithner, Larry Summers and Ben Bernake? They are the very people who caused the problem in the FIRST place?
