4. I'm trying to keep it down. Spent too much in years past, nobody really cares anyway.
I'm going on a big European trip in a week so I can't spend too much. My Euros alone were such a sticker shock...

But I may make some presents.

6. To save money, I'm going to alienate everyone I know around Thanksgiving.
Then beg forgiveness in January.

8. About the same
I don't buy for a lot of people--Mom, Dad, Sis, Boyfriend---cards and little trinkets for a few friends. That's it.

Maybe a couple of hundred bucks.

11. Don't know what we'll do
One of my kids is still young and believes in Santa so I have to find a way for Santa to come but we are so broke this year it's all I can do to keep the utilities on and the kitchen stocked with food.

If he were any older I'd tell him the truth about Santa and just enjoy the holiday without gifts.

I know we won't be exchanging gifts between adults this year.

23. I know everyone is so tapped it is hard to find help
but I have 2 little ones too...so try to put your family on a list with the local Childcare referral service, or the women's center, or call around to your local Kiwanis, soroptomists, etc to see if they have a "christmas wish tree"...(those people always have money and are looking for a way to make themselves feel better by helping others...)

good luck! I know how it feels, i am right there with you...I have convinced my little ones that santa stops by grandma's house first and choose to lighten his load there!

12. Everyone has agreed this year, no gifts.
Avoid the commercialism of something that is really a family event.

21. Less, but how do you spend less than almost nothing...
Got laid off in January...though the job was 20 hours a week, so that was barely nothing anyway...

maybe I'll just bake cookies and wrap them, since I have foodstamps.
