When I see/hear the word "liberal" spoken in a perjorative tone...
I want to strangle the person saying it.

Talk me down...

1. I'm so sorry..........but I really can't.
I've been reading American boards, and am convinced that a good half of you are completely daft.

3. It's worked though...
...very few people (politicians) will openly admit to being a "liberal". Now "progressive" seems to be the acceptable adjective.

4. Well, even the wingers have switched from calling us
liberals to calling us socialists. Liberal has pretty much been worn out as an insult.

In my own case, I never gave up calling myself a liberal.

5. How about when they say "conservative" as if it's something to be proud of?

6. I'd like to see a few freaks knocked out cold. Then, either they would watch their fucking
filthy attitudes, or they would raise their barrels our way. I am ready to grease them. With deputization of course.

7. It doesn't help any when Liberals call themselves Progressives,
like they are afraid of the word Liberal.

9. Me too
but I sense the tide has changed. For me, it no longer has the negative vibe that neocons like Rush and
his ilk have tried to attach to it. Their words no longer have the same sting or punch as they used too.
I'm happy adn proud to say I'm a liberal now, whereas just a few years ago I felt I had to qualify it somehow.
I feel encouraged I guess because I see Thom Hartmann, Ed Schultz, Rachel Maddow and some others speaking up
for liberal ideas.

10. Embrace it.
I used to get really uptight about being called a "grease monkey" because I fixed cars for a living. But then I came to realize that the people who felt that way needed me more than I needed them.

and I am more than happy to tell them so too.

I was at my daughter's soccer game and I was talking about flu shots with this woman and her dad was standing with us so he gets into the conversation and he said "You know Obama's gonna fine you $2500.00 if you don get a flu shot." I said I hadn't heard that.

Then he said he heard that "Obama said his health care plan wasn't gonna cover them illegals. Thats becuz he's gonna jus makem all citizens"

Then the prize winner "Yup that's what I heard on Fox News. I even voted for 'im once but never again."

First of all I don't beleive he voted for him the first time.

Second, I really didnt' know what to do? Start a battle at my daughter's soccer game? So I just looked at him and didn't say anything, and then just looked away back to the game.

I mean WHAT THE HELL!

These are the people who hate the "libruls" you can't make in roads with them so I don't know what you are supposed to do.

14. Call out whoever uses the term in that way and tell them they are a patsy to the GOP.
Edited on Mon Oct-05-09 10:12 PM by applegrove
GOP mouthpieces have had orders to use the term in a negative way for 20 years I'm sure. Better yet say"are you a conservative?" and sneer when you say the word conservative. Then say "how does it feel". The problem is letting people get away with behaviour like that.

16. My LTTE 2 years ago: Liberals - Founding Fathers, Jesus, George Bailey.
Our Founding Fathers were Liberals. If they were Conservatives, they would have supported the King of England and his Viceroys as rulers.

Jesus was a Liberal. The conservatives were the Romans and the Sanhedrin.

George Bailey (Main character in "It's a Wonderful Life") was a Liberal. Mr. Potter was the Conservative.

'nuff said.
