Do you think the Blue Dogs truly believe what they are saying or are they
just trying to wring as many concessions for their state as possible. I think they are trying to basically sell their vote. Holding out to the very last second to get any and all percs possible. Do you think I am being to cynical about these people? They are afterall politicians...

1. To paraphrase Lily Tomlin, "No matter how cynical you get,
it's impossible to keep up." I think the BDs are bought off by the corporate health care system. They see their path to continued power as being paved by the campaign contributions of the industries whose interests they are serving, and they see their post-retirement futures as consisting of lucrative sinecures on the boards of those corporations.

2. They must believe their own rubbish
Why else would they buck such overwhelming public opinion that says they're full of shit?

As for Baucus, one explanation I've read about him is his disgust for the government run health program he's most familiar with, the Indian Health Service. The stupid man doesn't realize that service is inadequate mostly because it's been so underfunded since it's inception, the red headed stepchild of public health.

5. Baucus is stupid or making excuses, which I suspect is the latter because
there is Medicare there in front of his face, a program that still works well, in spite of decades of the Republicans trying to kill it with inadequate funding.

3. What I thought was chilling was Congressman Alan Grayson saying in an
interview that since he's been in Washington and has been getting to know his colleagues is that they don't care about the ordinary person and his problems. They are unconcerned about them in his view.
