8. I know
But we don't know his circumstances now, do we?

As much as I hate the war; I know of many soldiers who joined to have an income and I support them.

10. I do not blame the soldier for being in the military
I do, however, lay some blame on the Obama administration for giving Bush's illegal war legitimacy by keeping our troops in Iraq when they are sorely needed elsewhere.

22. What about the mother of the child
with an illness that no insurance company would cover? She joined the military for the health care.

15. The childs pain
is not the propoganda.
Using the image of the childs pain is the propoganda.
And it has obviously worked.

A family photo is not the same as a codpiece and "Mission Accomplished."

Perhaps I am not getting your point.

The codpiece and "mission accomplished" were BAD propaganda, because they were so blatantly false.

21. Uh, I think it's the opposite
Sorry, but this isn't positive propaganda for the military, but rather a reminder that our soldiers are still being sacrificed in these ridiculous wars and that there's a horrible impact on many families.

Our volunteer military allows the vast majority of us to ignore the sacrifice of our soldiers forced away from their young children for a year at a time.

This is a photo I want Obama to see. As a father, I think that this photo could have an impact on his Afghanistan decision making because he seems to stand strong for things that he has that personal connection to. I think that this photo shows him what he would feel if that was Malia or Sasha and that's important, because he's being pushed hard to continue our indefinite wars.

I too am against this war but I do NOT blame the soldiers.

I blame the General Officers and our Administration for keeping this INSANITY in place.

Not the soldiers NOR their family member's fault.

30. I remember when another SoS thought a half million dead children was worth it.
Lesley Stahl on U.S. sanctions against Iraq: We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that's more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?

Secretary of State Madeleine Albright: I think this is a very hard choice, but the price--we think the price is worth it.

38. Only reasons I would let this pass: Albright is a Democrat; but more importantly, she clarified
her remarks subsequently, saying that she knew immediately upon saying this that it was going to send the wrong message, and that what she had said didn't mirror her opinion well.

Condi, to my knowledge, is 100% unrepentant about ANYTHING she did as SoS. I could be wrong, but I think I would have heard about that by now.

40. Here's her follow-up quote, "hasty, clumsy and wrong"
As soon as I had spoken, I wished for the power to freeze time and take back those words. My reply had been a terrible mistake, hasty, clumsy and wrong. Nothing matters more than the lives of innocent people. I had fallen into the trap and said something I simply did not mean. That was no one’s fault but my own. (Her Memoir p. 275, quoted by Shedon Richman)

44. If it had been posed it would have been propaganda.
You see sheeeoite-loads of barmy posed pictures and images everywhere in support of this war using vets and families as a focal point. A couple of commercials currently running come to mind. They look nothing like this.

What I see here is real life. That girls' pain is real. She is not an actor paid to pose by other actors portraying the scene in some historical re-enactment. She is standing next to her father and grieving. When it's real, it's not propaganda but the truth.
