He's a religious fundamentalist AND he has an M. B. A. Sound familiar?

Plus, he's charismatic, young, and has the distinction of defeating Tom Daschle.

I think Thune will emerge as a Presidential candidate or running mate for the GOP in 2012 or 2016.

Dick Cheney and Sarah Palin didn't work too well in the Electoral College calculus either.

... or Thune's a buffoon. We can make it stick, if we repeat it loud and often.

I've been researching Thune, not just because he's a US Senator, but also because I believe he's the one of the handful of dream candidates for the current GOP.

The Republicans still haven't gotten over Reagan, for God's sake. And he was over two decades ago. They'll try all sorts of things, the MBA route among them.

In fact, judging from the last election, they are determined to go even further into self-parody.

He "beat" Tom Daschle by all of 2000 votes, and with Frank Luntz and the dirty tricks team running full blast, running schemes like
intimidating Native Americans, who usually vote Democratic, away from voting (like having thugs shadow them on the way to the polls).

He is also from the extremist wing of the Republican Party (not that, after Palin, that is any barrier any more). But a real base
is more in their party's imagination than anywhere in the real world. I don't see it, except for the fact that they have exactly
no one inspiring right now. Any party seriously giving Palin ANY kind of lip service is one so desperate for a standard bearer
that it wouldn't surprise me to see a Dick Cheney/Frank Luntz ticket just because no one else decided they wanted to do it. So,
if Thune is under any consideration, it's because they are just one step short of looking for Alexander Throttlebottom.

Thune is like a smarter, more extreme version of George W. Bush.

If someone like Palin could get the nomination as vice president, why can't Thune?
