Don't let the RW frame the argument: "Cadillac" Health Plan REALLY means UNION fought for REAL plan
This is just another attempt to punish and kill off unions by destroying the benefits they have fought for over the years. The real people that need to be taxed more to pay for health care for all Americans are the ones with the "cadillac" stock options and golden parachutes and executive multi-million dollar bonuses - if they weren't being given such unjust compensation at the expense of the rest of us we could easily afford health care for all Americans.

1. I laid out my old union plan on another thread...
You nailed it.

Collective bargaining gets you the best rates... if we had a public option, think of the collective bargaining power!

8. it's rubbish.
see my other post. i HAVE a cadillac plan. i will gladly give you further details on the benefits, but its vastly superior to most plans, and is CLEARLY a cadillac plan.

they exist. as usual, rhetoric trumps reality. my union kicks ass, and we HAVE negotiated for one of these cadillac plans. and i love it.

4. From what I've seen they base it entirely on the amount of the premiums
My last insurance plan, which I COBRA'd for a while, was nothing out of the ordinary: 80% coverage for hospitalization, $20 copay for MD visits, tiered copays for Rx's, $4000 max out of pocket for my husband and myself. The premium was $1200/month. Seems as if it punishes the purchaser for being overcharged by the insurance company.

5. because they don't have any other uniform way to do it.
and even then it really punishes people for being sick as much as it does for them having a good union plan. If they are sick the insurance thieves will invariably find ways to charge them more.

For those people perhaps it should be referred to as the "over-priced insurance lemon" plan...

7. actually no. i have one. it's a cadillac plan.
let me repeat what i've already posted.

my plan covers all medical stuff with 90% coverage. once one pays out $350 in a year, it moves to 100% coverage.

included are such gems as: 60 massages a year. i get a couple a week. it costs me NOTHING'

30 chiropractic appointments a year. cost: nothing

60 physical therapy appointments a year and.or acupuncture and other "alternative treatments". cost: free

doctor's visits. free

MRI's free.

x-rays : free

i personally just had surgery on my shoulder. the entire thing cost me NOTHING. the drugs have a small copay (about $7 if it's generic), but the medical treatment is 100% coverage.

my MRI, X-rays, surgery, anesthesia, FREE. my massages. FREE. my physical therapy. FREE. the slings my doctor provided me. FREE.

and a lot more than that is covered. extensive mental health treatment covered. bitchen dental and vision.

if this isn't a CADILLAC PLAN, nothing is.

based on my benefits i believe my plan qualifies as cadillac. i love it, btw. ( i do support universal health care btw).

it costs my employer about 900 a month.

mostly because of my surgery, i've racked up over 30k EASILY so far this year. and have never been billed for anything, apart from that initial 10% of visits until i ran up to $350

11. no, this is a police plan
Edited on Wed Oct-07-09 06:52 PM by paulsby
i don't give a #($#($ about how the attack is focused, only that's it's accurate.

righties attack lefties. lefties attack righties. that's how it's played.

some attacks are fair. others aren't

it is an accurate statement that some union employees have cadillac plans. mine clearly is.

one of our local fire dept's has one that is also excellent.

i have NO idea what %age of unionized employees have cadillac plans. i do know that my plan is a cadillac plan, and i know firefighters (i used to be one) and cops from other agencies, with equally bitchen plans.

it's rhetoric to pretend they don't exist. they do. i don't care if a rightwinger, a leftwinger, or a middlewinger is making the claim. the claim is true. some union employees have cadillac plans.

like i said, i take advantage of the benefits. i am getting a nice massage tomorrow as a matter of fact. after my physical therapy. neither will cost me a cent.
