CIGNA Employee Flips Off Mother Of Dead Girl Denied Transplant
A CIGNA employee gave the finger -- literally -- to a woman whose daughter died after the insurance giant refused to cover her liver transplant.

Hilda and Krikor Sarkisyan went to CIGNA's Philadelphia headquarters, along with supporters from the California Nurses Association, to confront the CEO Edward Hanway over the death of her 17-year-old child.

In 2007, Nataline Sarkisyan was denied a liver transplant by the company, on the grounds that the operation was "too experimental" to be covered. Nine days later it changed its mind, in response to protests outside its office. It was too late: Nataline died hours later.

"CIGNA killed my daughter," she told security. "I want an apology." Sarkisyan was not able to speak to Hanway; a communications specialist talked to her instead. After their conversation, employees heckled the group from a balcony; one man gave them the finger. CIGNA called the police and had the family and their friends escorted from the building.

5. The article simply disgusts me...
...the reaction of Cigna was merely to apologize for the employee.

Ummmmmmm...demote him, fire the ashole??? How about something that has some meaning to it?

28. And health insurance companies "serve a purpose"
(really, that's when someone should have yelled "liar!") and apparently that purpose is to thin the herd. "sarcasm"

In reality most the peons who work at insurance companies aren't bad people (5 years ago I was one), they're just trying to get by. I know the wheels at United Health Group would probably be shocked if they knew how many of their employees thought single payer was a good idea - at least there were a lot of us back when I worked there.

I have two children: 17-year-old daughter and a 11-year-old son.

If that happened to me, that asshole would spend the rest of his life flipping the finger with only eight possibilities. And they wouldn't include "Tallman."

damage; letters to the editor to regional papers & the like.

Letters to Cigna/media demanding the exec's name & that he be held responsible & apologize (these fucks loooooove to talk about "responsibility" when it comes to the little guys, I'm sure they won't mind being held to the same standards).

Embarrass the asshole, the corp, & blacken both their names.

Crap that pisses me off; they already got their blood money, you'd think they could at least refrain from *gloating* over it.

out of business because, after all, these are our friends and neighbors, and we shouldn't want to see them out of work-- remember that? well guess what? I said at the time, and I say again, HELL YES, I want them out of work, I want them out of business. these heartless, murderous bastards are a poison in our society, and none of my friends or neighbors are anything like that.

The Sarkisyan family's wrongful-death suit was thrown out of court because of a 1987 Supreme Court ruling that shields employer-paid health care plans from damages over their coverage decisions.

45. I'm at the point where I think we need to get access to tanks.
Let's see those smug rent-a-cops try to stop those when their doors get blasted through. Don't leave the tank until you are spoken with by the board and that's FINAL. You sure ain't-a getting in the front door any other way. Even several hundred people will just remain out front with their "you first" timidity.

It'd be great if the divided and conquered Republicans had a smidgen of empathy. But no, it's easier to just shoot our feet with our thumbs up our asses, watch football-field jawed bastards say everything is just great and "if you can't get a job and if you're sick, it's YOUR fault" and call our president an Islamofascicommunist, blaming a 45-years-in-the-making problem on him.

There needs to be a "Million Worker March". I went to one in D.C. once and . . . wow, 7,000 people were there. Something for the local news to laugh at, for sure. When are WE, the people, and THEY, the government, going to actually start taking the jobs/health care/needs of a DYING citizenry thing SERIOUSLY? Because I sure don't think anything is stopping the unspoken "Plutonomy" from killing us.

At least this family GETS it. They went to the REAL source of the problem and exposed these bastard fucks for what they really are - a non-caring amoral bunch of cowards who won't own up to their responsibility in this girl's death.

47. I won't be happy until I see everyone of these insurance companies out of business.
It is just insane that the CEO of an health insurance company, United Health, is paid nearly a half of a million dollars A DAY! What is the justification of this when they are denying people coverage that they paid for. I feel the same way about other mandatory insurance such as for autos and homes that carry a mortgage. The insurance companies that provide this coverage should be non-profit with strict regulation of executive pay. When the government passes a law that requires you to purchase insurance they should not create a situation in which unscrupulous executives use it as a means to enrich themselves by fleecing their captive customers.
