Waxman, a strong supporter of a “robust” public option, and Stupak, whose insistence on prohibiting any publicly funded healthcare plans from covering abortions has put him at odds with House leaders and complicated efforts to complete work on three House bills, have requested volumes of documents from the nation’s largest private insurers regarding their profits and the compensation paid to top executives.
I looked this guy up on Wiki:
He is currently one of several strongly pro-life Democrats in the House (others include Tim Holden, James Oberstar, Dan Boren, Gene Taylor, and Jim Marshall); his 2004 congressional campaign was endorsed by the National Right to Life Committee.
Stupak is a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, his only committee assignment. He serves on the Telecommunications & the Internet; Commerce, Trade & Consumer Protection; Environment and Hazardous Materials subcommittees; and as the Chairman of the Oversight and Investigation subcomittee.

While in Washington, DC, Stupak rents a room for below market rent at the C Street facility of The Family, a Christian organization which operates the property as a tax-exempt church and a residence for several congressmen and senators.
When asked if he takes part in "fellowship" activities at the Family's C Street Center, Stupak said that he just rents a room, but does not know what goes on there. Stupak refuses to "discuss what goes on there, because I'm not there. ... Are there other activities going on there? Yes. But what goes on and things like that, I don't know. I have my room there." Pressed again about whether he's "involved" in any "activities" at the house, Stupak responded, "I have a room there. And I participate in a Tuesday night dinner once in a while there. ... So there is no regimen. There is no group stuff I have to do. ... You guys ... are grasping at straws that's not there. I rent a room there." "I do not belong to any such group. I don't know what you are talking about. ... I have no affiliation," he adds.
He calls himself a Democrat--but with his apparent religious-fundamentalist mindset, it's hard for me to trust his true intentions... for our intentions here, though, I'll just hope he's as avaricious as he is seeming-stupid; whatever it takes to get the job DONE.
God, sometimes I get so sick of politicians; Reeps OR Dems, they've sold our souls out from under us--and not even for a reasonable rate; they get half a million in contributions, then turn around and reward their sponsors with BILLIONS of dollars... it's like they're trading our futures for glass beads or magic beans or something, cuz they just don't "get" the math at those levels...
