All of this is culled from only the first page of DU's GD:P section. :fistbump:

If Sherrod Brown's count is accurate at 44, we need at least 7 more to get 51 (6 if we include Biden) and 10 additional one who do not filibuster.

30 senators sign letter backing public option

In the past, it's been House Democrats who've been most vocal in supporting the public option. Now, Senate Democrats are getting on the bandwagon.

30 Democratic senators (really, 29 Democrats and one independent who caucuses with them, Vermont's Bernie Sanders) joined together on Thursday to send a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in which they ask him "for your leadership on ensuring that the merged health reform bill contains a public insurance option."

P.S. I just "rec'd" this to offset the "unrec". I guess the "Unrec Fairy" is up early this morning.

3. I can't believe I'm adding this, but Obama just won the Nobel Peace Prize....

Posted elsewhere on DU, with this link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8298580.stm

This just feels bizarre: this is terribly early in his administration. But here's what they said:

US President Barack Obama has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.
The Nobel Committee said he was awarded it for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples".
The committee highlighted Mr Obama's efforts to strengthen international bodies and promote nuclear disarmament.
>snip<
"Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future," the Norwegian committee said in a statement.
"His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population."
Asked why the prize had been awarded to Mr Obama less than a year after he took office, Nobel committee head Thorbjoern Jagland said: "It was because we would like to support what he is trying to achieve".

7. K&R--thanks, Hekate
I'm starting to think that too many people don't EVER want to be happy. About anything. The crab, crab, crab is getting tiring, and it's nice to see all the GOOD news in one place so we get some friggin' perspective.

Thanks again.
