Seriously. All this fuss over what five politicians in Norway think. I don't get it. It's basically a global hot or not list. It's very nice in a kind of "We Declare the Bush Era Officially Over" sort of way, and I thought the President's remarks this morning were very nearly pitch-perfect.

Outside of that, I just don't care what five politicians in Norway think. They're not any brighter or more insightful or granted some sort of celestial status. Just five politicians, with their views about global politics, and their likes and dislikes. Same as the rest of us.

Some people enjoy prizes and award shows. Whether or not someone wins an academy award has zero bearing on what I think of a film. So it is here. Some people might like something I don't. Some people may hate something I really enjoyed.

And like the academy awards, I find the reactions the most entertaining part, both the very positive and the very negative.

then it'd probably be a hunky dory affirmation of their efforts.

But when they give it to that GLBT-hatin' war-mongerin' Obama? Meh. Don't mean nothin'.

I also don't care about Academy Awards, Golden Globes, Grammys, or any other award. I like and dislike things based on my own experiences with them - not on whether or not a couple of people have high or low opinions of them.

Jeebus H. Christ. What a moran.

It's like how some people think an Academy Award is the final say about whether or not a movie is good. What's the use in arguing with someone who values it that highly and, when discussing a film, will pull out "Well, it won an Oscar, so who cares what you think?" It's an appeal to external validation as a replacement for defending arguments.

For some people who care about that sort of thing, it's vitally important to have that validation of their opinion. So it is with the Nobel Peace Prize. It's a political prize granted by five Norweigan politicians. Some people into politics think "My god, it's highly important and deeply confirms my views."

Others just don't care and form their opinion regardless of these things.

I'm just amused by the reaction. Even a harmless "I liked the President's remarks this morning, but don't care about the prize either way" is cause for head explosions. People need to get a grip. I haven't seen this kind of prize-driven lunacy since Crash beat out Brokeback Mountain.

USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!

In a world of over six billion people, it just doesn't much matter to me what five people think.

If it makes you feel better, as noted above, I feel the same way about other awards.

And I agree, Obama won and I really don't get the wringing of hands.

I mean.. there are so many things to choose from:

1. high opinions globally
2. the election
3. the peace prize
4. last nights baseketball game
5. A senate seat
