Matthew 5:9 - Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Matthew 5

1And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:

2And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

3Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

5Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

6Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

7Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

8Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

9Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

10Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

12Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Congratulations Mr. President.

4. No, they'll edit to read
"Blessed are the peacekeepers," and attribute it to Jesus' omniscence in seeing that at some point in the future, St. Ronald of Reagan would name a missile the peacekeeper.

14. I have often marveled at the sheer irony of naming a ICBM with not 1 or 2 but 10 warheads...

capable of killing millions of people in a blinding flash the "peacekeeper".

This photo use to scare me and at the same time it is strangely beautiful.

An 8 warhead MIRV test of peacekeeper. The "lines" are from heat of re-entry due to the fact that the warheads a traveling at around over 20x the speed of sound.
Once in terminal phase they are simply traveling too fast (over 4 miles per second) to be stopped by any technology known to man.

I imagine this is what the end of the world would like this photo seconds before the flash.

6. Cheesemakers?
Spectator I: I think it was "Blessed are the cheesemakers".

Mrs. Gregory: Aha, what's so special about the cheesemakers?

Gregory: Well, obviously it's not meant to be taken literally; it refers to any manufacturers of dairy products.

10. The race goes not to the swift,
nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

It doesn't say who gets the gold medal for peace, but I think you can sort of infer from the writer's general drift.

11. Matthew 10:34-35 and Luke 12:51-53
Matthew chapter 10:
34Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

Luke chapter 12:
51Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: 52For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. 53The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

13. Nah, not bipolar at alll...
Those words (which scholars believe were added to Jesus teachings years
after his ascension) were a reference to the violent
suppression of a zealot rebellion against the Roman occupiers.

A few years after Jesus' rocketed into heaven, the rebels grew in boldness,
and Rome, angered at their audacity, sent in massive troops that destroyed
Jerusalem and the temple. At that time, no one trusted anyone: the early
christians, the Jews, and the hated Romans. Everyone was turning everyone
else into the hated authorities....

That's why the comments about fights, and uprisings. This historical
reference is also the reason for the statements that were later attributed by
fundamentalists as proof of the 'rapture.' Fundies read the Bible as it is,
without historical insight. That's reason for their sad state of affairs....
even the constitution is read their way... it is as it is...
unless you're talking about guns.. then they claim special insight into
what the framers intended.

The Bible is not as simple as it seems...

15. Hmmm: "added to Jesus teachings years after his ascension"
Makes you wonder what else they added.

Maybe the part about his ascension?

If people need to know that much about the history of the book in order to understand it, maybe they just shouldn't be relying on it at all.

16. +1
It's plausible that Jesus was never meant as anything more than an allegorical character.

17. Here's an easy rule of thumb to figure out what was added/changed.
All the parts that contradict the Christian who is making claims are the ones that were added, changed, or misinterpreted by every other Christian who has ever lived.

Simple!

18. You think Christ exalts the Caesars of the world?
The urbane Obama is fashioning a comparatively more polished empire, and he's suddenly a child of God?
