I just told my best friend of 10 years and my son's dad's family off.
I'm sick of it. I'm sick of the snide remarks, I sick of their religion and their politics being flaunted in my face constantly. Can they be proud that the POTUS won a Nobel Peace Prize...NO, of course not. They have to wish failure upon him and say how undeserving he is. Well, screw 'em.

Ok, the friend thing hurts, dammit. But everything was fine as long as Bush was President. I treated the subject with respect and tried not to offend, but apparently it's ok to send me snarky text messages and write nasty stuff about Obama on my Facebook page. Ugh. What a night. Crap.

6. I knew it was gonna happen sooner or later.
I just wasn't looking for a fight tonight. I was gonna go to The Rocky Horror Picture Show, yea...with that friend.

Hey! Let's all do the Time Warp!

10. Everything was fine when their world was fine.
As soon as it wasn't, they were willing to alienate you. And for what, a cheap shot. Not a solid relationship, unless they are willing to come around.

You did the right thing. Hold your ground.

13. I think that for most people who are nasty, it isn't that they "have"
to be, but that they "choose" to be.

7. Hugs to you.
I feel your pain. Don't waste energy trying to understand these people. Evolution has not caught up with them. I have the same thing in my family and it does not get easier. They are not educable. But we can will celebrate our very cool President who seems to know how to bring people together. Obama is helping America come back into the fold. Peace and love, Kim

9. It's very unChristian to lord anything, real or imagined, over another...
Who would Jesus snark off? NO ONE!

I like to ask them if they pray to Jesus with that mouth.

I know... I have Fundy Family too... so sorry.

11. Thank you everyone.
The damn just broke and I couldn't do it anymore. I feel better and later when my family isn't around, I'm gonna give it a good cry. Then I'll be able to square my shoulders and get after it again.

We did the right thing, Obama is a good President. He might not be perfect, but the last time I checked, no one else is either. I'm proud of being a part of getting him into the Whitehouse and I'm not going to be quiet about it anymore.

23. If you were respectful of their feelings while Bush was president
Then they should be respectful of yours now.

If they can't set that subject aside, then fuck 'em. Life is too short to suffer that kind of stress on a constant basis.

Maybe you will get an apology and an honest effort to be tolerant. I hope so!

that she's been out of line...If you get crickets then she deserves the boot.

14. I have no doubt that there won't be an apology.
This has been building up for a week or so. You're right, I'm better off without HIM (I know it's not normal to have a guy for a best friend.) in my life. It'll be ok.

32. We'll see, but I'm not counting on it.
I don't think he even realizes what happened yet. When he gets home and looks at his facebook page, I think he'll start to understand because I plastered my page with every positive article about Obama's prize posted her on DU that I saw, and I posted Rachel's little tribute story about past winners, and did some other stuff too. I may have gone too far, but I'm darn tired of being quiet and nice and just trying not to rock the boat. I live in Oklahoma, in one of the most conservative towns if you can believe that and I don't have ONE liberal person on my side on FB. I felt really ganged up on.

19. ezgoingrl - I am having a similar problem with several friends of mine.
Things were great during the Bush years and we never discussed politics. Now, I am getting all sorts of snide e-mails that are not flattering to the President. I never looked upon them as racist - BUT!!! The time has come to make myself clear - I am an Obama fan!

22. My best friend who is like a dad to me is a die-hard Republican.
There is nothing he would not do for me and nothing I would not do for him. He is 73 and I don't know how much longer he will live. Our bond is love and it transcends politics. We avoid bad feelings by avoiding political talk and discussion which is not hard because politics does not encompass and define my entire life. In this case my relationship is much more important to me than our political differences.

24. I understand, and feel badly for you both. I guess you'll have to avoid anything
political. My BFF used to be antichoice, so we've never discussed it , but I sense she has come to a slightly different position as her daughters have grown up.

I hope it gets better for you both.

27. I remember when the SEALs killed the Somali pirates
And it came out that Obama had to give the order to do so. My dad said something stupid like 'he must've had a teleprompter telling him to do that'.

Its insane what radical partisanship can do to morality. Bush was a miserable president, but he did some things right. He signed a law support rehabilitation for prisoners, he called for HIV/TB/malaria funding, etc.

If Bush jr is honored for his support in combating HIV and malaria, I will be happy for him. I don't put my hatred of Bush above my hatred of disease. I don't get how people become so partisan it totally warps them.

30. The trouble these days is that
politics has a way of slipping into and affecting our personal lives. The economy, job losses, job insecurity, health issues, health care issues....and unfortunately, a lot of it is negative. Thanks in large part to the 8 years of W. I got off Facebook - that helped a lot.

today she spouted some non-sense about Obama getting the Nobel Peace Prize because he was black. I asked her if Colin Powell had run, would he have gotten the Nobel Peace Prize, she then accused me of calling her racist without answering my question..:wtf: ..I put up with all her crap during the primaries, during the election...but after today, no more...I'm done...
