Which states export vs. import federal taxes-- Seeking Info.
I could use some info about which states send more fed taxes to DC Vs. those states that get more fed taxes than they produce.

Yes, California was called Communist again. TIA.

1. are you talking about taxes paid vs how much the state gets from the feds?? because
it seems that the dem states, like NY, send more in taxes then they get back from the feds. not sure about other states. if i remember correctly from the last time I saw the numbers, the ones bitching the most about government and taxes seem to get the most back. but I could be wrong.

4. As I suspected. That loud sucking noise you hear is dollars leaving
coastal blue states and being siphoned into mostly central and southern red states.

Why in hell do RWers hate socialism, lol????? They are the biggest beneficiaries of it.

11. Sure, a ratio of nearly 1: 1.5, it is roughly the same. On which planet do you live?

With the exception of DC, whose particular status means that it gets ONLY federal dollars by design, the ratio between states is roughly 1:3 (New Jersey .55, New Mexico 2:0).

There are reasons why this happens, including the fact some of these states are very rural with few resources, but it is striking that those are the states who send senators to Congress that want to cut spending that help people. There is some cognitive dissonance there.

6. CA's tax dollars mostly wing up back in CA
And are used for some southern red states, as well western coastal states, eastern coastal states, and some northern red states.

But our rich states can afford a little more taxes.

8. Look at what a pig DC is, and that's on top of outrageous income/sales/prop taxes.

10. LOL. DC is not a state. It is funded ONLY by federal dollars by status.
You cannot compare to the rest of the country.

12. DC has property tax, sales tax, and income tax. Substantial local taxes.
The federal tax dollars DC gets are two kinds: the compensatory payment in lieu of property taxes on the federal property, and the other federal money that various cities get for various reasons.

13. CA only gets 79c in benefits for every $1.00 it pays into federal coffers.
Time for the red states to pay their own way so we can keep our own money. THEY don't want to be part of a union that includes us.

14. So let me get this straight
We push for higher taxes on the rich etc, who primarily live in places like TX, CA, NY etc. and we push social programs for the poor who live mostly in sparser populated red states..

We do it over their objections.

And you complain that they should be kicked out of the union, so us rich states can keep the money we fought so hard for the programs to give to them?

Sounds a bit more like "hey we decided to give you money, whether you want it or not, so shut the fuck up and do anything we say"..

9. FAIL. California gets 76 cents back on the dollar.
Edited on Fri Oct-09-09 10:01 PM by KamaAina
Small states generally do well while big ones (NY especially) get hosed. And of the top few "Communist" states, the only Blue one is Hawai'i, with all four branches of the military based on O'ahu.
