Marta and I got our flu shots today

We saw Beanie & Jason in the hospital Tuesday. We didn't know at the time they both had the swine flu. Marta and I got our shots (not the h1n1) today. It may have been to late for me. Either a reaction to the shot is making me feel bad, or I caught it Tuesday.

I'll post more about this over the next 24 hours.

1. Here's hoping it's just a reaction to the shot. I always feel punky a couple days
after I get mine as my immune system kicks in.

2. amazes me all the people that get flu right before the shot. for real
people are feeling flu like symptoms. but cant get flu from shot. so they say, had flu before shot. the thing. i have never had the flu. amazed so many people coincidently get flu right before the shot. i also hear, that the flu shot wont give you flu, but will give you all the symptoms of flu. wow.

i am sorry you feel bad. but with the lecturing on the shot. not having experienced either shot or flu myself. and the lecturing on the shot.

i find the reaction for so many that get the shot interesting. and informative

feel well soon

5. You know, I've had the flu, the real thing.
I've gotten my flu shot every year since I went to college because colleges are plague wards. In almost two decades, I usually have no reaction at all. Once, the injection site bruised (but hard looks sometimes bruise me, so this is not a surprise) and this time, I had a reaction.

The one year I did get the flu, it was a variety that wasn't included in the annual vaccine. Let me say that I have never wanted to die so badly. Lifting a glass of water was exhausting. Breathing felt like too much effort. Everything hurt. I quite literally laid on the couch for a full week, and when I finally did feel better, I had to wash the couch cushions because I'd soaked them with sweat. I ended up with severe ear infections in both ears out of it, and you know, I will never, ever complain about a crying baby again, because those muthers HURT.

Most of the time, when people get sick around the time they get their flu shot, it's a cold or one of the gazillion viri we social primates pass to each other. We get colds around the time we get flu shots because the weather's shifting, we're going back to school, spending more time indoors and out of the sun and in dry air. The problem is we have a confirmation bias -- nobody gets their flu shot then goes on the internet and says, Hey! I didn't have a reaction!

6. that is true. i do take into consideration all the people getting shot and not
having a reaction. i told myself exactly that as i was posting. but especially this year i am hearing more reaction to it than past. maybe i am paying attention more, but i think not. (like to be fair and balanced in thought)

i do get colds here and there.

but that flu, that is what i hear people say about it. i havent had.

have had food poison, 24hr thing, but never what you describe. i just hear so often, must have gotten flu before shot. (really, i am not buying that one. will by reation to shot, but not the flu)

3. That sounds like the reaction.
6 to 8 hours later, came on like a freight train. (Really, it's not as bad as real flu -- air molecules touching your skin won't make you want to die with the reaction, unlike with real flu.) Yep, happened to me, too, when I got mine 2 weeks ago. In future, you'll probably want flumist instead of the jab -- supposed to be fewer side effects.

You've my sympathies!

4. Exactly. They aren't all getting the flu, it's the immune reaction, quite similar.
