Newt Gingrich is writing me for money
Edited on Sat Oct-10-09 11:49 AM by MissWaverly
Just rec'd this letter today, thought all DU would like a view through the looking glass - Miss Waverly

Newt Gingrich
Speaker of the House of Representatives
(1995-1999)
Wednesday afternoon, 2:17 pm

Personal & Confidential

Dear Fellow Patriot,

Let me get straight to the point about the historic opportunities facing the conservative movement in 2010. With President Obama and the Democrat-led Congress trying to take over health care, federal government spending at record levels, and the liberal Congressional agenda overwhelmingly opposed by a majority of voters, the American electorate is ready for real change. The question is whether we will step up to the plate and support new leaders dedicated to enacting the right change. There is one Congressional race of particular importance. And that's why I'm writing you today for your immediate help. The U.S. House race in Maryland's 1st Congressional District has become a national priority for the Republican Party and is a "must win" if we hope to take back Congress.

The Democrats have been raising money from every liberal activist they can find to hold onto to this seat. Fortunately, the Republican Party is already rallying around a true conservative in State Senator and physician, Dr. Andy Harris...Remember, the national Democrats are targeting this race as a key battleground race for keeping control of the House. They will stop at nothing to consolidate their command and control of the entire federal government in 2010 and beyond. And I'm afraid that with a victory in the 1st Congressional District of Maryland, they will keep control of Congress. We cannot allow this to happen. Please lend me a hand today to help ensure that Dr. Andy Harris has the financial backing to run the aggressive campaign he needs to win. And for a gift of $75.00 or more, I will send you a hardback copy of my latest novel TO TRY MEN'S SOULS. If you send a gift of $100 or more, I'll include a signed copy. Finally, to encourage you to send a gift of $250 or more, I'll send you a signed, personalized copy. Whatever the amount, please respond right away.

I forgot the donation envelope: Please help me stop the liberal Democrats before it's too late! -- Dr. Andy Harris

This Letter was paid for by Andy Harris for Congress.

1. if there's a postage-paid envelope
stuff everything back in there, and maybe add more, like a grocery flyer to add weight and mail it back without your check. Optional to include a note to say no f'ing way.

I am really uncomfortable with the whole thing
I have been contacted a great deal by Dems for years and it always goes like this: do you know so and so
is running. We think he's a great candidate becuz: he's been heavily involved with helping veterans as a state senator, he's been involved in environmental cleanup campaign for the Bay, he supports stem cell research. The Republican appeals always start with Dear Patriot, I like so and so and you will too and
if you send money you will get a neato reward.

5. well, I think he means well, it's just that he's bought the hype
they repeated it so long that they have begun to believe it, a society with limited social programs and a robust defense industry.
this is not the guns and butter of the Johnson era but the guns w/o butter.

20. I was going to be against your idea because
some low level staffer would have to open the envelope. But then I thought, they wouldn't be there if they didn't support the pig.

Blot out any barcodes and don't be shy, a 44 cent stamp is well worth the satisfaction.

8. looks like a pre-release, it is currently 2,301 in books
It's on George Washington and is written by Newt and two others. It already has gushy reviews, and the leading review by a "dyed-in-the-wool democrat" (is anonymous) and raves about the book.

12. Dunno...but if there is one, they know it.
Newt used to teach history at a Georgia college a good while back. I can't imagine history through his eyes as being anything but loaded with rw talking points.

19. Yes, it makes me nervous that they are hyping to the young
To inspire our youth with their values, it's one reason that I want accountability, I do not want to see these people held up as role models.

22. That aspect of it bothers me greatly too.
Gonzales (and not just him) should be in prison.... war criminals being allowed to teach ...and sit on the bench (Bybee) doesn't speak well of our country.

26. yes, there is also John Yoo
who basically wrote that there would be no parameters on a war president, which is something that we did not have even in WW II, Roosevelt addressed the Congress for a declaration of war after the Japanese
attacked Pearl Harbor. Even FDR did not go it alone.

9. Just went to Act Blue and donated to Frank Kratovil
He had an abysmal town hall in August, he's for cap and trade because it would bring down our utility bills and was booed for that. It's really weird, our utilities bills in Maryland have skyrocketed with
some people paying thousands last winter and keeping their thermostats at 70.

primary to back him.

but the Republicans hold on to their icons, look how Newt dominates prime time, he has not been Speaker since 1999.

21. That district has run on the conservative side for years. Without
the split on the repuke side and the huge turnout of the Presidential Race, Kravotil likely would not have won. It will be another close race in 2010.

so unless there is a major rejection of the current Congress, I think Kratovil can win it.

14. Hey Newt, hit OxyRush up for a few million.

He's got more $$ than he knows what to do with. And I'm sure he'd love to spend it on RWers.

You'll have to wait until Monday to ask him though. He usually spends his weekends hanging
out with the boys :eyes: in the Dominican Republic.

24. it's strange that they keep trying that appeal
Sooner or later they are going to realize where the power is in this country and it is not on the far right. Their only power in the beginning derived from appealing to the working class/blue collar and pretending that they would benefit the forgotten worker while serving the corporate elite 100%.
