Health-Care Bill May Not Get Single GOP Vote in the House
Health-Care Bill May Not Get Single GOP Vote in the House

by Ben Pershing

The House is inching closer to voting on a comprehensive health-care bill, even as the chamber appears so divided that the measure may not attract a single Republican supporter.

The final vote, likely in late October, is impossible to predict, but lawmakers and aides from both parties said this week that there is a strong chance the GOP will be unanimous in its opposition. Such a result would mark the second time -- the first came on the economic stimulus package in February -- that the entire House minority rejected one of President Obama's top domestic initiatives.

"We're still hoping that some of them will come on board, but we see no sign of it," said Rep. Chris Van Hollen (Md.), a member of the Democratic leadership.

Even the most moderate Republicans, who might be inclined to vote with Democrats on big-ticket legislation, say they don't expect to do so on health care.

"I don't think I would, and I don't sense much support from any Republicans," said Rep. Peter T. King (N.Y.), predicting that the GOP support would be either zero or "no significant number."

1. Who needs the GOP?
They should be irrelevant at this point.

2. It's up to them
Want to be on the wrong side of history, Republicans? Again? Go for it, you simpletons.

3. Good, let those sulky two year olds prove once again
that they're the deadly enemy of ordinary, hard working Americans. Let them show the public what an elitist fuck who only cares about the top 0.5% of the country that makes up the plutocracy looks like.

Let them prove that their party doesn't care about country or humanity.

Then let those bastards get thrown out of office, every last one of them.

5. Let me put on my surprised face.
The GOP is anti-American and would rather people die than do something that may put Obama in a positive light. Fuck 'em.

8. They really aren't very good at reading polls, are they?
Not much good at oversight or law-making either. But they are really good at being selfish dickheads. They know a clear majority favor government run healthcare, but they are too blinded by dogma and/or just plain spite to do the right thing. So they bleed a little bit more everyday, as the saner Republicans break off and drift away. There's a 20% block of Republicans who favor reform that includes a Public Option. There's still room to grow more irrelevant.

11. I'd rather have headlines documenting the GOP changing and starting to offer good ideas

Our democracy would be a lot better if we had multiple political parties with reasonable solutions to our nation's problems. Instead we have one so-so party and another that is batshit crazy. That's not healthy.
