The Gay March: A New Generation of Protesters (200,000 people!!)

that means it was probably more..and many of them young people!! I love the generations that will change this country!
----------------------------------------

Oct 12 2009

The march on Washington that gays staged Sunday on the National Mall drew something like 200,000 people — that's a good guess based on conversations with many of the organizers and local authorities, although estimates of Mall crowds are notoriously unreliable. But one number you can take to the bank: the average age of those backstage who wore walkie-talkie headsets and staff badges, the men (and a few women) who were behind much of the organizing effort, wasn't over 30. And that, by far, was the oddest thing about the march: Why would a generation wired to their mobile phones and Facebook accounts nearly from birth want to resurrect a form of political expression as old and musty as a mass gathering?

2. Congratulations. Can you tell me what members of each house of Congress will introduce the bills?
Whip counts?
What those of us in the Health Care Reform effort found out is that it's better to make each individual in Congress miserable. And, that's done with a phone and/or letters.

13. 15 Dem: 11 Rep : Who's in and who out. Are there 2 Dem no votes? or 4 non-votes?

The whip count should list that.

So, I take it that the bill is in committee ... if not back up a step.

Now target your holdouts ... make their life miserable. It's no longer the Dem party, but a couple of assholes that need to be coerced by constant harassment.

Call/FAX Email continuously.

Somebody has got to act like a citizen lobbyist. I'm not sure how Jane Hamsher does it, but she intercepts Congress critters on the way to their offices. Ask them questions with cameras rolling. They will answer.

However, DOMA repeal is in a different committee, yes?

4. I love it... But, I'm so disappointed in Barney Frank...
Why would he disparage the event like he did? I would never discourage a young gay person from attending their first march... It's such an incredible feeling. Just look at those faces!!!

7. Even watching it on cspan was electrifying.
So many wonderful speakers and all the people there were very inspiring. The people there were actually using twitter and sending live impressions, video and pictures in real time. I was following those along with watching cspan on the computer. Thank you to all the GBLT people who took care to thoroughly archive this historical event.

12. More than the Teabaggers!
I'm pretty sure that the gay march got more marchers than the Teabaggers. And about half of the age of the average Teabagger, too.

I just wish that my sore knee (torn meniscus) would have been feeling good enough to let me join you folks. You have the good wishes of a 40-something straight, married couple.
