NJDC: Conservative Nazi rhetoric has reached 'epidemic proportions'
By Jordan Fabian - 10/13/09 02:51 PM ET

The National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) on Tuesday sharply criticized a tweet from the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) comparing healthcare reform efforts to Nazism.

The group claimed the tweet was a sign that conservative use of Nazi rhetoric to criticize Democratic policies has reached "epidemic proportions."

"The GOP and conservatives' use of Holocaust rhetoric has reached and unprecedented levels. It has to stop," NJDC President David Harris told The Hill. "It's profoundly offensive to many many people."

Earlier today, the NRCC tweeted a link to a video on a blog that featured an actor playing Adolf Hitler in a biopic delivering a ranting speech. The video's creator added subtitles that read:

Pelosi has 256 Democrats in Congress, she can pass whatever the hell she wants...this is not how you socialize your country you're supposed to bankrupt your people!

The tweet labeled the link as "funny video" and was removed by the NRCC, which subsequently issued an apology.

"We saw the video this morning and thought, like other parodies, that it was funny," Randall told Politico's Glenn Thrush. "In 20-20 hindsight, we realized it was in poor taste and pulled it down... I don't want anyone to think we're comparing Democrats to Nazis and to Hitler."

But Harris was not impressed with the apology, saying "it adds insult to injury" to think that somebody found the video funny.

"It's really the vast majority on one side if the aisle," Harris said of the Nazi references. "It's deeply caustic and offensive and it has to stop."

Harris added that the organization had compiled 40 instances of conservative politicians, organizations, and commentators comparing Democratic policies and politicians to Nazis.

"It would be a nice good triple digit number, maybe even a quadruple digit number, if we looked at the town hall meetings across the country," he added.

8. The JDL is right-wing and a hate group.
Rarely do they ever issue a statement.

2. RWers pointing fingers and calling other people "Nazis" is PROJECTION,
pure and simple. They do it so no one can RIGHTFULLY call them what they are without seeming petty and playing tit-for-tat.

10. The Big Lie
Accuse your opponents of that which you are, in fact, guilty of.

Pioneered, appropriately enough, by Josef Goebbels.

3. Funny - they didn't say anything about Israel's treatment of Palestinians
Didn't they have a policy to "purge" palestinians

11. That's Not What I'm Saying
All I'm saying is that it's an issue that has no bearing on this topic. I'd be more than happy to discuss it with you somewhere where it doesn't detract from the original intent of a thread.

13. Don't you know?
Every time, every time a Jewish group says something, especially in protest of something, it is not relevant unless they have at some point launched a diatribe against Israel in regards to the Palestinians, otherwise, the posters will throw out red herrings such as above and the first response.

17. i think that`s about the third thing that i agree with you
i find the right wing using references or images of the Holocaust to degrade our president or anyone who dares challenge them is repulsive. it exposes the religious right`s hatred of the jewish faith that they have hidden in the last few years. it`s starting to feel like the 1960`s when jewish students were buried in a levee and a black activist was shot in his drive way.

yes this has nothing to do with palestinian issue

And that is my once-a-month agreement with you.

(Let's try to not make a habit of it, eh? We both have images to maintain.)

15. I wonder if part of their strategy is to sully the term, so when the next GOP pres ACTUALLY acts
like a Nazi, it will be seen as retaliatory for our side to call it what it is.

Not like the GOP considers them people exactly, is it, though?
