Don't look to the good Senator Harkin to be there for you in Committee .......
The Good Senator Tom has ceded his power on this matter to Desperate-To-Be-Relected Chris Dodd of Insurance-Company-Rich State of Connecticut.

I'm sure I'll be accused of seeing ghosts under my bed. So if someone takes issue with my concern about this, please feel free to tell me why I ought not be worried about this. Tell me why I should have any hope whatever that a public option will come out of committee.

(I can NOT believe that, when Democrats control EVERY FUCKING THING, the "public option" is now "The Hope".)

1. Do you have a source for that. This article in the NY Times says just the opposite

7. Matthews just stated it .... 5.05 EDT, MSNBC .... where this has been oft-cited since Kennedy died.
Catch the 7.00 rerun .... its right at the start when Matthews is talking with Conrad.

2. Concern is appropriate. Despair is not.
Given the politics, it is unlikely that a bill will be passed congress which has no public option.

I think it'll resemble the one in HR3200 but with an opt-out trigger. Strong-ish. Tied to medicare disbursements for a time.

6. you nailed it on the head
concern -NOT DESPAIR

the battle is halfway done, we are nearer to victory than ever before. No is the time to fight the hardest, despair is our worst enemy.

5. Harkin just said on TV that it will have a public option like HELP, which is like Blue Dog's, not
regulated by Medicare rates. Harkin said they must have gotten it right in the Senate. Medicare rate is too much of a jump who won't go against insurance. Something that once Dean saaid an improvement. Though now say we need Medicare to 50 as immediate relief (and election strategy, I guess, w.o. saying).

What can we do about Nelson? Then there's Lieberman, who won't touch this at all. WH does not want reconciliation because complicated bills become messes. If they can't get 60 to stop filibuster, maybe.
