8. Yes. There should be one standard of payment and care for everyone
Just like the fire department. If you have a fire, your property tax does not triple, correct? You want extras? Fine, get them on your own dime like the affluent in other developed countries do.
10. That's not a fair analogy - your fire insurance premium would be higher
based on the risk of insuring a 50 year old home with out-dated wiring versus one that was built 5 years ago.
While it'd be nice to see a flat payment for everyone, it certainly wouldn't be fair to start out of the gate that way - perhaps phasing it in over time.
What exactly are you defining as "extras" and how do specific countries pay for them? Are you suggesting that there be a flat standard and that any recommended tests or procedures that are typically done only on people above a certain age be considered 'extras'? That could easily cost more than some of the other proposals I've seen
I'm 45 btw, not some 20 yo bitching about having to pay for your healthcare while I'm healthy.
11. What's not fair about it? We all pay for Medicare--just open it to everybody.
The point of sharing risk is to SHARE RISK, capeesh? In every age demographic, 5% of the population accounts for HALF of all health care costs in that demographic. Why not just gas them all and save the rest of us a lot of money? :sarcasm:
7. They need to let everyone over 50yrs to buy into Medicare...
at a reasonable rate with a supplement for the unemployed and working poor. As a group they need it the most desperately and they have also paid into the system the longest. It would be a great way to start and it could start right away since the system is already set up.
