Unemployment benefits expired? Don't expect to receive an extension check until Thanksgiving.
Webb supports extension of unemployment benefits

Sen. Jim Webb, D-Virginia, cosponsored a bill today that would extend unemployment insurance by 14 weeks for all jobless Americans.

Nearly 2 million out-of-work Americans face expiring benfits by the end of the year, according to a release from his office.

Republican leaders stalled the measure last week, the release said, but it is expected to move forward in the Senate in coming weeks. A House proposal would extend unemployment benefits by 13 weeks in states with jobless rates higher than 8.5 percent.

The House proposal, therefore, would not extend to Virginia, which had a 6.5 percent unemployment rate in August. According to the release from Webb’s office, 22 other states would be excluded from receiving extended unemployment benefits as well under the House proposal.

“Unemployed individuals need assistance regardless of where they reside, and this compromise represents a fair and appropriate extension of benefits for workers in need,” said Sen. Webb. “I urge my Senate colleagues to move this legislation forward swiftly as it directly affects the livelihood of so many Americans during these difficult economic times.”

Did you see that? IN THE COMING WEEKS?????? Well I, for one, am so freaking happy that the Senate can pass themselves a fucking raise without batting an eye but for those whose unemployment has expired we can all just go Cheney ourselves.

Give me one valid reason why our Democratic Senate cannot get this bill passed.

1. I posted the story earlier
These bastards don't give a flying shit about the American people. These turds have known SINCE JULY benefits would expire for millions of people who are out of work.

They care more about Wall Street than they do about us.

It's time for people to take to the streets.

She couldn't possibly wait until putting her concerns into a second bill and have the Senate pass the House bill. No, she sets the stage for the Republicans stonewalling the whole bill and people go without.

5. The House was kind of stupid
thinking they could pass a bill through the Senate that didn't include every state.

4. Senate Rules
The Senate isn't like the House of Representatives. There are all types of rules you have to work around in order to get anything passed.

The Senate has rules to protect the minority position. The primary reason being was 200 years ago, certain states were worried that certain other states would do something crazy like abolish slavery.

Barack Obama's Top 10 unfulfilled pledges

PROMISE BROKEN. Mr Obama said he would end income tax for the elderly making less than $50,000 per year, thereby eliminating taxes for seven million of them. This has not been part of his economic stimulus bill, his first budget outline or any legislation proposed by the White House.
