1. There was a swine flu outbreak in 1957
If you were alive then you MIGHT have some immunity.

AFIK that is the only logical explanation for this.

4. I got my regular seasonal flu shot yesterday
The handout sheet said that immunity should last for up to a year.
I can't understand how the swine flu shot I got in the 70's could last 30+ years.
Does anyone have an explanation for this?

11. I turned up this little tidbit of info when I did a quick search:
The truth is that some people *do* seem to be a lot less susceptible to swine flu. People over 50 years of age appear to fall into this category, and it is thought that the fact that an H1N1 swine flu strain was in circulation prior to 1957 (the year the Asian Flu pandemic dropped swine flu off the map) might have something to do with that. Older people may have antibodies to the older strain of swine flu, and this may be protecting them to some degree.

It might be even better for people over the age of 60:

New evidence suggests that people in their 60s might be somewhat protected against the spreading swine flu because they may have been exposed earlier to a similar strain, government health officials said.

Test results released Thursday of blood samples from 350 people showed that a third of adults older than 60 had developed antibodies that might confer some protection against the novel H1N1 virus, said Dr. Anne Schuchat, a public health official with the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
