Rush's publicity stunt sure seems to have worked
having been over shadowed by more flamboyant wingnuts like Glenn Beck, Rush has managed to get himself back in the headlines and once again being talked about. Looks like he got what he wanted.

8. For your assumption (that it wasn't a publicity stunt) to be correct
one would have to assume Rush did not forsee the reaction he would get.

17. Now he's on the radio playing the martyr.
"Oh poor me... Those mean, nasty liberals have done this to me. Them and George Sorros..."
Sorry Rush. But I don't feel a bit sorry for your dumb ass. You're playing this exactly like it was scripted. Your fucking dumb listeners too. I actually heard a Rush butt-smooch call in and say that he was officially boycotting the NFL, and canceling his NFL package on cable! Can you believe the utter stupidity of his increasingly insignificant minions?

9. Possible alternate explanation:
He wanted to buy a football team and failed.

11. He knew what would happen
he gets to be a victim, just like his listeners think they are. It allows him to bond with them.

16. No rational person who knows anything about the NFL
and how it operates would EVER have thought for a second that Rush Limbaugh had any chance- zero, nada, none - of becoming the owner of an NFL franchise. Ever.

20. Well only for that tiny sliver of people that already worship him
and for whom victimhood is a full time job anyway. I doubt he expected to be rejected, because he is delusional. However, no rational person ever thought that would fly. It was just a nice reminder to Rush that he is not mainstream and will never be mainstream.

12. So basically you're saying it's a no-win situation for us and Rush is VICTORIOUS
Edited on Thu Oct-15-09 01:15 PM by Cali_Democrat
Think about it...Rush wanted to be part owner of the Rams and the NFL has rejected him. But he got his name in the headlines anyway and he has won, at least according to you.

Now if Rush did become part owner of the Rams, every controversial thing he said would become big headlines because he's part owner of the Rams. So he wins because he will get his name into the headlines anyways.

No matter what, he wins and there's nothing we can do!!

We're screwn!!

13. You pretty much are right, he was in a no lose situation
only thing you missed is that his right wing audience pretty much all have a misplaced sense of victim hood. Rush being "denied" his "right" to own an NFL team will only feed his audience's delusion and increase his bonding with them (as a fellow victim).

15. So even though he was booted from ESPN for his McNabb comments
he couldn't forsee what his attempts would generate. You really need to learn from history (NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE ENEMY). Rush is many things (racists, fascist, exploiter, hyporcite) but he isn't stupid.

21. It is a win for us, ultimately.
It was not good exposure. It is the first truly partisan political story I've seen since I entered the sports world bubble with my recent job.

I would think that the guys who boycott football for Rush are gonna start being viewed as sorta weird by their otherwise apolitical friends. And perhaps a few of those apolitical friends might have had their eyes opened.
